Anyone With Hypothyroidism Taking Armour Thyroid?

New Here
I have been on thyroid meds for 23 years. I switched to Armour because it is more of a natural med. I have been on and off of anxiety and depression meds for just as long. I gained a lot of weight while taking bupropion and citalipram (sp.?) and I weaned myself off when I found some products that were more natural that I wanted to try. I felt great and lost 30 pounds over about 10 months. Now I am starting the down hill slide again and need to try something different to help cope. Is anyone else have weight gain issues while on bupropion and citalipram? Or anyone with hypothyroidism?

Im on Bupropion and have the opposite two problems. I have lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. My TSH or whatever those letters are is low so I am having a panel done for the hyperthyroidism this week. Strange enough just before you posted I was scrolling and trying to find a place to ask a thyroid question myself. I had wondered if anybody had studied the effects or symptoms for people with hyperthyroidism and PTSD. I have been making it to PHP, but other than that it's been quiet debilitating. Sorry I can't help, but thanks for posting.

If you have hyperthyroidism then you have an over active thyroid, producing too much of the hormone. Mine is just the opposite. I hate taking meds but I don't like feeling the way I do either. :bag:

I take synthroid for hypothyroidism and Citalopram for GAD... I gained a butt load of weight, but I've just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism in the last year. I was told that weight gain was not a side effect of Citalopram.

They keep messing with my synthroid dosage. I had lost a lot of weight just prior to my thyroid crapping out, so I'm hoping that once my dosage is settled on, I'll be able to get that rolling again. If I work out religiously, and limit my carbs, it comes off.

I currently taker Armour Thyroid and made the switch from levothyroxine (synthetic thyroid) just in the last year. Honestly, I haven't seen it have any affect on my ability to lose the weight I have gained from all my other medications. I wish I could help you more but if you can stay away from any of the anxiety or depression meds that have weight gain as a side effect I would if I could, I am a mess, nothing I do helps and all I get from my doctors is eat better, exercise more, take better care of yourself.

I've been taking Armour for several years. My insurance company regularly switches me to synthetic, then I take it for a few weeks to a few months (or I get nothing), I get sick, then they re-approve the Armour.

I've very grateful to have Armour since my body, for whatever reason, simply cannot seem to uptake what it needs from the synthetics. I feel so much better on Armour.

I used to take Armor, but since I no longer have a PCP due to finances and no insurance, I had to find a non-prescription thyroid replacement. I found one, and it works BETTER than Armor! I was so surprised. It's hard to lose weight when you have a non-functioning thyroid, but at least on these supplements my hands and feet stay warm, and my hair doesn't fall out anymore. Armor tends to be expensive, supply sporadic, and for some reason my compounding pharmacist used lactose in the mix (I'm lactose intolerant), so I switched to other sources of thyroid support. I'm not on those other meds, I take Buspar for anxiety.

I take Nature-Throid and swear by it. It's only $8 for a one month supply, and works much better than Synthroid in my experience. I'm also allergic to the dye used in Synthroid, so it's nice not having to cut up my thyroid pills anymore. When it comes to my weight, my thyroid issues have no effect on it and it ultimately boils down to how much I eat. :coffee::coffee::coffee:

My doctor told me that there's often shortages of Armour and that the T4/T3 balance in it isn't as good.

I have hypothyroidism and take levothyroxine (syntheticthyroid). Also wonder if there is any study done about how Benzois and fluoxetina works with levothyroxine. I have 10 kilos plus and they stay there, no matter what I do.

Would you mind @Eagle3 sharing the name of what non-prescription thyroid replacement you are on that replace the Armor you were taking; and is this thyroid replacement (non-prescription) still working well for you, please? I will see doc Monday and am trying to stay off of synthetics because my body does poorly on same. Thanks very much.

I would like to know if there's ever been a study regarding Ptsd and thyroid problems as well. I've heard but am unclear that some dx'd with Ptsd also have auto-immune issues i.e. hashimoto's thyroiditis (which I have been dx'd with this autoimmune disease). Was wondering if many with Ptsd also like me have thyroid issues too?
