@Zoogal There is exercise and then there is obsessions with exercise. You are definitely on the obsessive end of this.

I generally need about 10 hours of fairly moderate to fairly heavy exercise a day. When I’m doing well my life has always has that as part of its foundation. Ideally, at least part of that is entailed in my job. Being sedentary? Kills me.

My job is I walk I clean bathrooms I take a break. Start over. It's so easy lol might not be intense enough for what you'd need. However there's giraffes and lions...( And bears oh my!) :)

10 hours a day of moderated to heavy exercise is IMO used as a bad coping skill. It’s avoidance. And unhealthy. Even the olympians practice and workout 6 hours. 10 is just crazy.

Heard on the radio that they did a study with exercise against booze to see which people lived longer Seems as though have 1-2 glasses of wine or beer won out over 45 minutes a day of physical exercise.

Not anymore due to too much physical shit from COPD, PTSD, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, bursitis, pinched nerve, carple tunnel, and the list goes on and on. But yes, I did work out. 1-2 hours a day.

And the study you quoted is for people 90 and above

"The 90+ Study, led by the University of California neurologist Claudia Kawas, says seniors drinking a moderate amount of alcohol each day lowered their risk of premature death more than seniors who exercise daily. The study has monitored over 1,600 people over the age of 90 since 2003; which researchers call the fastest-growing age group in the United States"

Nope, New York Radio station and the study was done in NY. I’m not going to debate the study, as that’s not my point. Excessive exercise IMO, is unhealthy and avoidance.

Hardly crazy.

Not only does that leave 7 hours of sitting on my ass, plus 7 hours of sleep... but if I’m working a physical job? That’s only an hour or two of recreational exercise. Like doing 5 miles around the lake with my kid & dog every day before work, and an hour after work at the gym, dojo, pool, whatever.

If it’s purely recreational exercise? 10 hours is a super easy/lazy snowboarding day. With multiple hour long breaks for meals and studying and hanging out in the lodge, before heading back out to slide down the mountain or play in the freestyle park. Ditto, a very chill day on the beach. 7 hours of laying around in the sun, cooking over bonfires, flying kites, taking pics.

Does it help manage my stress levels? Absolutely.

Avoidance, though? I have to go at things pretty hardcore (15-20 hour days, where there is nothing in my life but work & sleep) to rise to that level. I did, for years, because that was the job I worked. And, for sure, avoidance was a big part of that. Ditto I’ve used exercise for self harm, thrill seeking, & other seriously bad things. 10 hour days? Of mixed level moderate to intense? Not only isn’t that, but leaves a whooooooooole lotta time for a very balanced life. It’s just an active lifestyle, is all.
