My Love Affair With Cigarettes..

I am stepping myself down with nicotine patches and it is going well, but is far from easy or perfect. I too want to quit for good this time and have many great reasons to do so. I have sleep apnea, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, and COPD. I am already on oxygen at night and I just don't want to die at age 54.

These are my great motivators and I find that with the nicotine replacement patch, the withdrawal is easier to handle.

I started praying and asking for prayers before I began to quit and I believe this has been a major help. Still, I will tell you when it comes to addiction anything positive that helps, well, ...you might want to just go for it!!!

Far be it from me to tell you how to do it, but anything positive that works is good. I am willing to try just about anything at this point and I am so grateful for the support here on the forum. It does make a difference.

Wishing you all the best and much continued success,
Lion

Thank you, Lion! I wish you the best of luck with your smoking as well! I too have been using nicotine replacement and it has been a godsend! It's been two weeks without a cigarette and I can actually say, for the first time in years, I'm actually kinda proud of myself! It's tough..but possible! We can do it! :)

Absolutely! I think positivity is key..I am so greatful as well for the support I've found on this forum! For my smoking and, of course, my PTSD. I've been on here about a month now and I can honestly say that this has really been a huge contributor to my recovery all the way around. I am truly humbled and inspired by the courage, strength and resiliency of every person on this board. I think it's beautiful that thousands of people from all over the world can come together and find healing in one another. I find a lot of peace knowing that I am far from alone in my struggle..and I have all of you to thank for that..

I relate to all of it. For me it was very sickening to realize that cigarettes were probably my best friend. They were actually my only form of self soothing. So, learning other ways to deal with hard feelings has helped, but that has taken time. It's really hard to replace all the comfy benefits of cigarettes. Honestly, I only quit because I was getting such horrible headaches...otherwise nothing would make me give up cigarettes.

I use nicotine replacement (cold turkey my blood sugar crashes too badly, even with lots of juice, and I risk going completely nuts). Cutting back on the nicotine replacement might take another decade, but it's a positive step so I don't care. Sometimes having little cocktail straws to blow through is nice. Exercise is helpful for me too.

Good luck!!
