I need bit of help before starting my next job hunt as you have already heard the news about the company not wanting me with them anymore. I was working as a Data analyst for almost 6 months with this Civil and environmental engineering company.

My qualifications are: Master of chemical engineering, BSc (Hons) in chemistry, BSc in Statistics and Chemistry.

It is ridiculous that I could not find a job for 18 months having all that qualification and working throughout my student life with 13 years of work experience in customer services. At first I started a looking for jobs specific to my qualification but after having no luck for 8-9 months, I decided to throw CV's for all sorts of jobs starting from Admin to data entry for even bank teller jobs but none of them wanted to hire me because I was too qualification for them despite having the work experience.

However, what I have learned from this job is that it is mundane. The work was repetitive and all I did for 6 months was matching excel sheets. This is definitely NOT where I want to end up in the next 5 years because I like challenging my thinking but I am confused about where to start this process again. I do know that I don't want to be stuck in a lab 24/7 or sitting in front of the computer the entire day. I want something that is a mixture of things and changes with time.

If you have any ideas on where to start this planning it would be very kind. I know that you can't tell what's in my head but where do I start my brainstorming from? I'm kinda confused and nervous at the same time because I just can't stand being no where again for another 18 months...

Thanks in advance.

Until you find a pay job, have you ever considered volunteering? If you have some spare time, helping animals, children, or the environment in some way can often make you feel productive.

I have the same problem - Ive been out of work for 1.5 yrs. Got layed off and then had some health problems that had to be dealt with - one of which included PTSD (from the job i was at). I'm now on Cipralex and see a shrink that specializes in CTPSD in Toronto. I had a couple pulmonary embolisms and found out i had IBD. Dealt with the health issues and been looking since January but haven't had any luck. Hard to stay positive but I guess just keep searching the job boards. I have my CFA and Bachelor of Commerce 8+ years in Commercial Real Estate development and acquisitions - very competitive to get a job. Last interview i was at - the guy who interviewed me said he received 300+ resumes. lol Makes you want to cut your wrists but my family helps me out and tries to encourage me.
