Trauma may cause distinct and long-lasting effects even in people who do not develop PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), according to research. It is already known that stress affects brain function and may lead to PTSD, but until now the underlying brain networks have proven elusive.

I really dislike how they word these things. This is exactly how people read stress -- equate to they have PTSD due to being stressed.

Stress is not the right word to use in relation to anything PTSD. Stress does not lead to PTSD -- trauma does.

Definition of stress -- a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

Definition of trauma -- a deeply distressing or disturbing experience.

It's as though people today just ignore words meaning -- toss them all into the same politically correct basket -- then pick one for use, regardless whether appropriate or not.

Love the article; just would like to know more specifics; what tests; CT, MRI... any stress evoking stimulant... but great to know, thanks for sharing
