Nah. In April, the police and the fire service went through the basement of my family's house. It turns out my crazy father has a handgun. I know it's the person who's to blame, not the weapon, but still... too many bad associations.
I have throwing knives. They aren't weapons, though. All...
You meet an old acquaintance. They're annoyed by your edginess and your "paranoia". They tell you to stop reliving the past.
At that point, you have to politely leave the conversation.
Hi Laura, welcome. I am so sorry about the loss of your parents. What a nightmare of shock and grief... it's hard to find the words. Four years ago, I was the passenger in a severe car crash that nearly claimed the life of my fiance at the time. As the others have mentioned, this is a very...
I'm thankful for my new unresponsiveness. I've lost track of the number of passive-aggressive jabs at me on various forums and in real life over the past week. I haven't responded at all. I can walk away or stand up for myself without getting angry.
I'm thankful for the bloggers I...
When you forget your current student address while filling out a form, which makes you feel like an idiot, then you feel guilty and apprehensive because you realize this makes you look suspicious, and later on you feel irritated with yourself for feeling guilty when you haven't done anything...
Distrustful.
Cynically pleased at having my intuition about something confirmed.
Alienated.
Happy. For two days in a row, I haven't been plagued by fear. I can feel happy without feeling guilty or expecting something to ruin the moment. I know this can change anytime. I'm enjoying it while...
DID was hugely popular about six years ago, if memory serves.
I respect your judgment. I used to subscribe to PTSD news alerts, but I've only seen a tiny fraction of what's out there, mostly in the form of websites and mailing lists. Our local PTSD Association (which apparently sprung up...
Regarding bans and attitude change...
I don't know the situation with Superjen, but I'm not going to investigate. Speaking as someone who is reactive, I've found that becoming too personally invested in the forum can be risky. In the heat of the moment, warnings about the rules make no...
Off the top of my head...
Get good sleep above all. Certain medications for pain and fatigue also promote restorative sleep. Quality sleep tends to reduce the pain the next day.
Remove sources of stress wherever you can. (I didn't take this seriously enough, leading to a bad relapse.)...
Ooh, memory. Agreed, this is a solid article. This is the kind of material undergraduate students learn in their upper year classes.
If you could use a co-author, I have recent research that could expand on the mechanisms in the article you posted (and then some!). Neuropsychology of PTSD...
I have the same problem. Anti-anxiety medication seems to help, but only in the sense that the dreams aren't as vivid, or I don't remember the details as clearly when I wake up. When I'm awake, I write it down, deconstruct it to get the images out of my head.
I like the idea of reading before...

I have a question. Will the references within the article follow Wikipedia's format, as in, clickable superscript notation that takes the reader to a References list? As ITL mentioned, lots of downloadable articles already include the APA citation. I agree that simpler = clearer and more...
I agree, APA looks good. There are sites that will generate citations for you in the proper format, but it's something you pick up on quickly.
Personally, I prefer the second template (no sidebar). Fewer visuals, more white space.
Welcome to the forum, Scarecrow. I recognized the name. Scarecrow, haunted by fear, student of fear conditioning. He's an interesting character.
You have survived a traumatic event. Emphasis on survived. It does get better. You've taken the first step by joining the forum and introducing...
Hi Patrick,
Let me second the "congratulations"! Deer has good advice (unsurprisingly!) :)
Real work-from-home jobs exist, but it does help if you can narrow it down to the specific type(s) of work you would be willing and able to do, because a search phrase like "freelance graphic design"...
Betrayed. Enraged. On the verge of "out of control".
Stabbed in the back by a cliquish group on the PTSD Forum.
I'm enraged, and I feel *&%#ing terrified. How does that work? They don't scare me as individuals. But "tight-knit group ganging up on me" triggers something.
Happy at the new fibromyalgia diagnosis. Finally! It's not lupus! :D (Or arthritis, or MS, or. . . .)
Annoyed with certain people online but trying not to let them get me down.
I don't drive or smoke recreationally, so I can't answer that from my own experience, but from what I last read, the jury is out as to whether or not it's dangerous to drive while high.
This is a beautiful idea. I hope people keep it alive. Love the drawings and the fractal, shadowchaser. I used to tool around with Apophysis. I didn't get around to teaching myself how to colour the images, though.
