Having challenge finding helpful MD and therapist after moving to Maine from a big city. EMDR was recommended by crisis line but after two therapists seems they just want to do CBT, which I don't like. Been in and out of therapy and meds for 20 years and am now considering IOP. Really conflicted about how to move forward finding new therapist and missing two weeks of work. Any Maine folks (or New Hampshire) with ideas? Should I go to Boston? Hope it's okay to tag @KwanYingirl

Thanks all.

Maine is a big state! I'm in southern Maine. Going to Boston has benefits and risk. There's the Trauma Center in Brookline. My insurance wouldn't cover it. I had a meeting with a Psychiatrist in Boston and although he was compassionate, he didnt want to take me as a patient because I'd be too far away.

EMDR I've been told by therapists to get it, but they weren't trauma specialists. So I finally found a trauma therapist in Maine and he has been very helpful. I've given up doing EMDR, I'm too reactive and dissociative. He says "first do no harm". He's not going to set me back by doing EMDR because it would retraumatize me.

Can't speak of Portland. There's got to be specialists there. I suggest you call 211 which is a resource for all social services in the state. You could also call your local sexual abuse agency for support.

Good luck
