Holiday Or Not?

I would suggest speaking with her doctors. A lot of illnesses are lingering. Can and do stretch on for months. In fact, the expectation is that they will. Other times, it could be any day.

Doctors tend to be stuck in the middle between being pragmatic themselves in order to provide appropriate treatment, & but needing to be providing hope for patients and families (weird as it may sound, the belief that you will recover is more important than most things). If you engage their pragmatism by explaining that you don't want to go on holiday for a week if your gran is in her final days... You could get a realistic appraisal.

It will always be an appraisal, only. Some patients who are completely expected to do well? You lose almost immediately. Others turn the corner, rally, and come through fine. So doctors are often leery of saying anything definite. But if she's expected days/weeks, versus months/complete recovery? Knowing which would be what I would personally need.
