If your knowledge of Heff is limited to his notoriety as the old dude who surrounded himself with young women and made a mint off a sex magazine? Can understand why he's not sorely missed.

But he did do a whole lot for civil rights, in a range of areas. It's not as loud and proud as the Playboy legacy, but it's still pretty significant.

Personally, I do think that women's magazines do as much for damaging the female race as Playboy ever did. Pics of scantily clad women being hypersexualised and photoshopped within an inch of Barbie are just as prevalent in today's 'womens health' magazines.

Heff is by no means a Prince Charming. But he made a big, positive contribution on a lot of fronts, albeit that the empire he's leaving behind seems to these days be more about bunny ears and viagra.

I don't know how to feel about this other than to say I don't think he did society any favors by desensitizing people's never ending appetite regarding intimacy. As a civil rights writer I find him worthy of getting a flower on his grave at least on an annual basis. The bunny business appalls me though.

The youngest nude playboy model was 11 years old. Anything good the man did might be worth knowing; but, I just can't appreciate anyone who published child pornography. I just can't.
