I am in a VA PTSD inpatient treatment program right now, starting week 4 out of 7.

There are about 14 other vets on this unit. Besides me, there are two other females, one left early.

What I am wondering is if anyone else has been through one of these programs? And, if so, have you ever noticed other vets segregating themselves in cliques and creating drama?
I am having trouble reconciling that someone who survives ptsd causing trauma can still be so shallow and juvenile.
I have decided to step back from everyone, but this is something that I did not expect.

My BFF went through PRRP and it was much different this program. I expected the environment that he described to me.

I was entitled to VA but private paid my own treatment in as much as I could exactly for that reason.
Are you able to go outside the VA?

Of course the risk with the program and a stance of "stepping back from everyone" is potential resistance to group treatment so I'd recommend you have a conversation with the facilitator to see where that goes.

Unfortunately trauma itself doesn't increase ones maturity level. :-/

    Sounds like the smoke pit.

Sometimes everyone there is just f*cking awesome, and hours blink by in minutes. Bullshitting, serious, whatever. Everything just damn good. Sometimes FFS. Maybe if I smoke 2 at a time the head rush will drown out these assholes and I can get anywhere else faster.

"Why are you smoking 2 cigarettes at the same time?"
    "Killing me faster. Go away."

I haven't been inpatient. But I can't imagine it being much different from any other time you get a bunch of vets in the same space with nothing but time to kill. One of those black and white things of either needing to bathe in Teflon & stay focused on your own shit to avoid throttling people, or a damn good time. With very little in between.

I have been through this type of group program, and no, nobody carried on like this. Everyone was adult about it and took it seriously, as getting onto the programs required a screening process to ensure that each person there was going to try their hardest, listen and wanted to improve their PTSD state to function better.

Sounds shitty and juvenile. Sorry that you have to go through this on this very type of healing course. Some people just need a bigger boot in the arse than others at times, I think.
