Losing my therapist

We had two sessions before I left Oregon. The deal was that we would see how doing distance sessions would work with me now being out of state and all. We, personally, were fine. In fact, in my list of a gazillion therapists, I'd say Wil was my favorite but he says he's looked into it further and it isn't something we can continue doing. I need to find a local therapist.

I'm really bummed. I liked this guy. He followed my lead and used the "F" word in session. He laughed at my inappropriate and awkward jokes (even though they probably weren't funny). He seems like a good guy who gives a shit and I really feel a loss like a whole lot more than I would expect after working with someone for 10 weeks.

All of this and I am also low on chocolate. ?

I'm not usually this sentimental about therapists. I don't know if it was the rough language, getting through the protests together, perimenopause or just that I really liked him. ?

It would be worth asking him if he knows anyone at all in your new state, someone who he thinks you would get on well with.

Thanks. We talked about it more and for now, I am planning to go back to working with him again after I get a job. I figure if he is my favorite after over 15 years' worth of therapists, it would probably be worth it for me to pay him as a mental health coach a couple of times a month.

Is the reason out of state licensing requirements?

The difference between coaching and therapy might be worth considering before embarking on it.
coaches can't work with mental health problems, should one arise, but they can help you with coaching thought to improve performance, develop your potential, help you with solutions, provide direction, and with assistance in goal setting.
