Can anyone tell me If you are over whelmed by the target image but are able to access emotions and body sensations can the trauma be processed with EMDR?

First off Welcome!

Emotions and sensations are a huge part of my EMDR. Both my eyes were bandaged when my trauma happened so I have no visual memory of the event. All I really had was emotions, sensations, auditory memories, and the frightening truth of what happened and its result.

Reprocessing memories changes how you think about your emotions around your trauma. For me that helped me access those 45 year old memories my brain kept from me.

Could you describe a little bit more, what you mean by 'overwhelmed'? Or, what does it look like/feel like, how does it impact the individual's ability to hear the therapist and verbalize the emotions, etc.?
