    How Important is a Diagnosis?

Hi Anthony. I have sent you a PM with some responses to the questions. I didn't post it here because some of it feels a bit personal. Many thanks for your help, I'm really greatful to you.

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

Lisa and Anthony, thankyou for your posts. You both make some excellent points and have given me lots of food for thought. Anthony, you make the point of PTSD only being considered if there is evidence of "abnormal trauma". I would like to point out the difference between the diagnosis for PTSD...

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

I forgot to mention - the type of traumatic injury that I believe I am suffering from is known as Complex PTSD. See the wikipedia article on Complex PTSD for more info.

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

RE the diagnostic criteria, I notice that bullying is absent from the list. I believe that bullying is significant enough to cause PTSD. After reading up on it, it seems that I am not the only one (bullyonline.org/stress/ptsd.htm#PTSD,%20PDSD%20and%20bullying). In my case the beatings I received...

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

Anthony, I agree 100% and I can assure you that I meet these two main diagnostic criteria as well as the other lesser ones. In fact, it was only after reading about the diagnostic criteria that I realised I have PTSD. Previously to that, I had thought I was going insane, which I gather this is...

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

I know what you mean about denial, I have been there. Sometimes I convince myself that I'm fine but my symptoms have been so bad recently that it's impossible to deny. I was wondering if anyone knows of a trauma specialist in the UK, preferably in the South West?

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

Thanks for the replies. My shrink doesn't specialise in trauma, she specialises in other things (depression, work related stress, alcohol problems and bereavement). She didn't actually give me a diagnosis as such, I think her words were "you have problems with anxiety". I have read a lot about...

    How Important is a Diagnosis?

I have been to a see a psychiatrist twice and she wouldn't give me any kind of diagnosis other than that I have an anxiety disorder. She prescribed me Zyprexa 2.5mg and referred me for CBT, which I should be starting shortly. The Zyprexa helps my anxiety. I have also started taking omega 3...

Sleeping With The Enemy - Car Noises

Did you try the brightly coloured sponge earplugs? Push them right in so they don't come out. Mine never come out, sometimes (rarely) they are so far in I have to use tweezers to get them out in the morning. Other than that, is there any way you can sleep at the rear of the house?

Nightmares - Parents Are In My Nightmares

I went to see a private phsych today, I explained everything. She was reluctant to give a diagnosis after one session, which is understandable, but she did say something along the lines of "some would say it's PTSD, some would say you've been through a rough patch" which I found a bit annoying...

Living and Sleeping With Car Sounds

The yellow and orange ones would be ideal in that case. They are very soft and consist mostly of air bubbles so you should be able to fit them in small ears. Once they're in they slowly expand. You have to push them in as far as you comfortably can, it feels a bit strange at first but you get...

Living and Sleeping With Car Sounds

There are earplugs and earplugs, some work much better than others. Try some like Dead Link Removed (the orange and yellow ones). Since you're in the UK you can get them from Blacks, or from an airport. Stuff them right into your ears and I can guarantee you will hear very little. My bedroom is...

Nightmares - Parents Are In My Nightmares

I thought I'd post an update to "my thread". Good news! I found out today my medical insurance includes consultation with psychiatrist and whatever treatment I need (counselling, psychotherapy, etc.). I've been referred to a psychiatrist on the NHS (UK free health service) but I've been on his...

Sleeplessness? I am Really Having Trouble

Sleep problems are very common with PTSD from what I know. Here are some things you could try that I have found helpful. You may know these things already. Proper sleep is so crucial to our well being, it's worth trying a few things. - If you drink coffee or caffeinated drinks, cut down and...
