News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

Oh, I forgot to tell ya'll that the point at the head thermometer said 100 point something twice at my pain Dr today. They do it when you first walk in and then have you sit for a bit and do it again if it's above 100. My oral thermometer at home right before I left was 97 point something. There was no way I had a fever. So they had the nurse check it in the back with an oral thermometer and it was 98 point something. His point at your head thermometer is inaccurate. And they are using those everywhere during Covid. The nurse said that they are less accurate then oral thermometers. But then why are they being used by like everyone for Covid stuff? Not sure how true it is but the nurse did tell me that all thermometers are different so whatever thermometer you use, keep using that one.

^Bc generally they are fast. If there's a abnormal temp then follow up happens/should happen. Yes different thermometers may have slight variations.

There's a high risk associated with using oral thermometers to test a lot of people -- transmission between testees, and between the testee and the tester who is standing close.

The cost-benefit payoff is that while there is some inaccuracy in infrared ones, you're expecting it to still pick up *most* instances of a fever, and in exchange minimising the overall risk that a potentially more accurate means of taking your temperature would pose during the pandemic.

The ones at the doctor (at least every doctor I've been to) has a clear removable thing over the thing that goes in your mouth and it shoots off with a clip so no touching it and you could still sanitize it. What she did was gave it to me and stepped back. So she wasn't near me as I had to pull my mask down to put it in my mouth.

Just saying if people freak over your temp being above 100 degrees and that thermometer is inaccurate, they may want another way to test such as an oral one or not freak as it was very inaccurate.

or not freak
It doesn't seem like there was freaking? They took the temp, right after you walked in, it was 100 (not unusual at all for a person walking in the heat), they ask you to sit + wait a minute? two? Then check it again.

I get the opposite coming in from the cold, seeing my doctor - I come in, temp reads around 94, they ask me to chill a minute, and check it again (b/c it's likely they are getting a false reading).

The temporal artery thermometers (forehead) are most widely tolerated and most consistent option. They don't depend on a fully closed mouth or not having eaten or drunk anything not room temperature in the last 20 minutes the way oral ones do. They don't require interpretation like ear canal ones do. It's really the smartest option, by far. So it picks up some radial heat from activity - easy to correct for, and corrects quickly.

So I walk into my doctors office for my first in person appointment in a year... after calling from the parking lot and asking if they were triaging out here, or to come in, told to come in... guy stationed at the door asks me if I have any symptoms listed behind him?

Yep! Almost all of them. I have pneumonia. And asthma. It’s awesome.

Okay! Go on through! 😃

I tilt my head, shrug, and go check in. Tell the receptionist I’ll be waiting outside. Why? So I’m not coughing all over your waiting room.

There was a brief flurry of activity I could see through the window outside as the receptionist essentially grabbed the triage person up by their collar, he tucked his tail between his legs, and they went somewhere private ...for what I’m sure was a conversation more fun than a whole goshdarn basket full of puppies.

I was apologized to later... they’re changing offices and their triage person doesn’t seem to have understood the training. ANYONE with either Covid symptoms or pulmonary issues/high risk is supposed to go through the sterile enterance (which needs an escort & a key car swipe). When I left? His triage desk had been moved from inside the warm office to outside in the drippy cold. I expect he’ll be rather more enthusiastic about leading people around back to the warm dry corridor, than he was about leaving the warm office to walk in the rain to it.

Scotland's pubs and restaurants and things are all shut again for a couple weeks, it's essentially new lockdown (they're saying it's not cos schools would theoretically be open this time but it's school holidays anyway). So I feel bad for the wee restaurants n stuff that just managed to open n are closed again, so furlough scheme (or some similar scheme) have been extended.

Ward next door to me has closed n isn't taking new patients cos they have a bunch of people with hospital acquired covid (bunch of docs tested positive, we share their docs but only our staff caught it off them so we are open) n since then a couple of nurses, physics, dietician etc are all positive too. But meh, they're all basically fine as far as I know. So even though *technically* we are meant to be self isolating cos we have all been exposed to someone positive (patients don't count cos we wear PPE around them) that'd be the whole staff 😂 so 🤷🏻‍♀️

We ran out of visors a few times cos my boss keeps forgetting to order them. It's all just a bit of a shit show again here tbh. But hey, at least we know what ppe we are *meant* to have this time around 🤷🏻‍♀️

Right, they did have me sit a minute and check it again and it was still 100 point something and then he insisted I had a fever and he only told me to check it in the back because I kept insisting it was 97 point something at home and that I never get fevers even when sick and I wasn't even sick. When I said it is hot outside. I'm exerting energy and have anxiety he told me I've been sitting in AC a while, that I'd have to exert A LOT of energy for it to be in the 100s and basically that it wasn't possible just from walking with a cane. He was freaking in my opinion. And it was really frustrating to have him keep insisting I have a fever when I know damn well I didn't.
