Spent 25 years in "worthless" chat and numbing (well, yeah... lifesaving too) drugs. Six years getting off 6mg xanax monkey (prescribed) then Effexor. (BTW: If you do that, do the AD first). Yes, six (6) years. Lost my home, career and wife (that might've have been a good thing as it turns out🤷‍♂️🙄.)

So, at age 60, I decided to get down to the heart of the matter - which I guessed (rightly) was my NPD mom and co-dep dad After finally reading (ok,👂To) "The Body Keeps The Score." I heard of cPtsd (Thx Pete Walker)... 🔔

Now in IFS (Dick Schwartz). Why it took 25 years to get to this, I have NO FING IDEA. 😠

If your just starting out, resist self-sabotage, listen to these books and find an IFS therapist. You and the world will be better off for it.

BTW: Try to keep some money, your job, friends and family (if there're not narcissists)... that would probably help. I'm just guessing here. 🙄🤷‍♂️

I have the body keeps the score book. I've read like a few pages maybe a chapter not sure. I then just put my bookmark in it and never went back to it cause I haven't been able to focus on reading any of the books I own and in theory want to read. I just can't focus enough to read books apart from language ones. But even that I'm struggling to stick with.

I dont/cant read either. I listen on Audible.

I'm glad you mentioned those books, they are on my list. How long have you been doing ifs therapy? How is it going?

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful
Thank you. IFS: about 4 months. More clarity and understanding than anything else Ive done, by far. You can put in your own amount of effort between sessions. The therapist serves as a guide.

Welcome to the forum:)
Thank you. Im glad I found it.

"The Body Keeps the Score" gets WAY better the farther along you go; reading it for the first time 7 years ago changed my life and gave me HOPE to heal.

Coincidentally, I just bought my own copy a few weeks ago and have been making my way through it again.

It's not depressing but empowering, if you can keep at it. It will eventually start discussing very simple things that show how we can heal each other and ourselves.

Welcome; forgive my ignorance, but what is "AD"?

Something I don't spend enough time on... is thinking how many bullets I have dodged but never will know about :)

Antidepressant.

quitting benzos ... Your forest of GABA receptors overgrown and stunted... mowed down.

you are skinned.

If you follow that closely with tapering the antidepressant...

You are dipping yourself in alcohol.
