some of this is self inflicted some isnt, im gonna start with the personal stuff. Ive been abused sexually as a child by a sibling but he was young to so thats just a write off for me kids doing stupid things not knowing the effects of there actions, i still speak to him alot and love him. In my adult life i was attacked in my home by someone i let stay in my home, he tied me up then sexually assaulted me, then he beat me up. Now for the self inflicted stuff. In the early 2000s to 2010s people used to show and talk about gore videos, in the future i looked at them myself, really noticing the effects of seeing these things now. Somethings caused me to have serious mental problems throughout my life, ive been sectioned twice, was diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic, had phsycosis and diagnosed autistic. Had really bad mental problems. I keep having flashbacks and nightmares about the things ive seen or been through. Also worth mentioning from a young age i witnessed domestic violence at age 5 ish and lived in womens refuges. Now i keep off social media at request of my gp. So do you think i have ptsd ? Im speaking to my key worker tomorrow. I just want things to get better i dont wanna feel unsafe all the time.

There’s no way for anyone here to know if you have PTSD.

Trauma causes -or exacerbates- a whole helluva lotta different conditions. 10 people can experience the exact same trauma, and experience 10 totally different results.

The diagnoses you already have may be totally accurate, or you may also have PTSD, or you may have something else entirely… including medical conditions that are making any psych conditions worse &/or difficult to read.

I can tell you that the vast majority of people who experience life threatening trauma do NOT go on to develop PTSD, only apx 20% do. Ditto, there is no symptom found in PTSD that is not also found in other disorders.

Oh, that is a disappointment, Friday. I was hoping to get someone here to confirm my C-PTSD / PTSD which seems to me to be pretty certain, but my psychiatrist doesn't think it is. I had to lend her my first PTSD book - PTSD Awareness by Dr. Ann Brown - for her to bone up on C-PTSD. I've now read three PTSD/C-PTSD books and it just confirms my layman's judgement of C-PTSD. I think I fit like a glove.

I was diagnosed as having delusional disorder (DD) way back in the 1990s, not long after Judith Herman's Trauma and Recovery came out and it probably didn't even register with whomever gave me the DD diagnosis (both C-PTSD and DD are easily misdiagnosed, I understand, but that doesn't to register with my psychiatrist, who claims the fact that I've been handled by several psychiatrists and the fact that I've had plenty of type II traumas and 2 or 3 type I traumas, which my psychiatrist acknowledges as fact, doesn't see that the more traumas I've had means more chance of my condition being C-PTSD. And the literature says: 'A diagnosis of DD should not be given lightly'; something I contend happened, although with the 'newness' of Herman's book, l think was a factor with a DD diagnosis. Oh well.

I note that I've changed the focus from ThePhantom's thread to mine - is that OK? Or should I have started a new thread - I'm New Here and am unsure of protocol. Please help if I'm doing this wrong :-).

Not going to happen. Not only are none of us here qualified to diagnose you, how would we diagnose you purely from your responses on a message board?

If your pdoc doesn't think you have PTSD but you do, you are welcome to get a second opinion.

Thanks somerandomguy... Yeah, I had already concluded 'Not going to happen'. And I never would have thought anyone could "diagnose me purely from your responses on a message board". Rather, I was hoping that my CPTSD documentation detailing my experiences would be used for that (plus responses from messaging).

So tell me, what's the main focus here, so I don't waste people's time by posting inappropriate material, please? I still would like to post my CPaL document (a PDF called 'Complex PTSD and Life') when I'm allowed, because it gives the forum my best effort relating to my case of CPTSD and PTSD.

Regarding my pdoc, I've been trying to get a second opinion, but both my family doc and my psychiatrist seem unable to get one. I'm also concerned that a second opinion from a doc who happens to know my pdoc will just rubberstamp pdoc's diagnosis, so I'm treading cautiously on that. Indeed, I've asked for a new psychiatrist, partly because the current one won't even look at all my material, as yet (she's apparently looked at most of it).

I'm in Canada, BTW, and it's not so easy to get a second opinion from an unbiased psychiatrist / psychologist, or as I'm finding out, a replacement pdoc.

Yeh i spoke to my key worker today, he said alot of people self diagnose, said when they speak to a professional they might not think so. Jesus soothes me through it all.

I'm not sure that's true. Trauma can lead to PTSD, and recurring trauma can lead to CPTSD - but trauma can also result in increased resilience. I'd be interested in knowing whether there's any conclusive research around the idea that more trauma = greater likelihood of CPTSD occurring.

We're all at different points with the disorder. Dialogue around here tends to have more to do with understanding the disorder better, and understanding ourselves better. So in many ways, if you believe you have CPTSD, then start looking around for people struggling with similar things as you.

The best way to utilize this site is to engage with other members on our experiences, explore symptomology, find common ground with others, feel less alone - start a diary, work out things either in your past or your present. Be part of a community. Learn things.

I understand that you have written out your trauma narrative and are waiting to share that document...but I have to tell you - it takes time to get to know each others' stories, here. Most find it much easier to get to know other members through interaction - engaging on topics of mutual interest, like we're doing right now.

Read threads, start threads...listen, share, and learn. That's what we're about.

Im gonna hijack my own thread and say thank you, thank you to all the british soldiers on here, thank you for keeping us all safe. I love you, ill always keep working for you. We all love you

I’ve had 4 different diagnosis generalised anxiety disorder, PTSD, BPD, and now cPTSD. It’s not all all unheard of here for people to have had similar experiences. Diagnosis isn’t an exact science and some psychiatrist’s have different views, experience, expertise, and bias they are only human. I can only talk to my own experience of course.
