The Halloween thread

My pumpkins in my kitchen.... singing, telling jokes, making scary faces at each other, blowing out each others candles

I just discovered this thread and I'm intrigued. I used to be a member of a forum (it sadly no longer exists), of trauma survivors, many of which had escaped SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse). Their horror stories of the rituals and torture that were part of their abuse, which was always worse on Halloween, were appalling. I'm well past the age that my kids participate in Halloween and I never decorated for it anyway - I'm more the "harvest decor" type of person. It surprises me on a trauma survivor site that so many people are into celebrating this holiday, while on the other trauma site it definitely was not. I'm not judging and don't really care because it doesn't affect me personally. I just find it curious. Any thoughts? Are there no SRA trauma survivors here?

Maybe because Halloween acknowledges the darker things in life, but in a safe way because you can choose how much to participate in and ignore the rest? It's the only (non)holiday that doesn't deal exclusively in pastel colours, fluffy animals, good will towards others, sunshine, happiness, family, and unicorns farting rainbows. It's literally the opposite of the other major western holidays. Those other holidays are all goodness on the surface, but ugliness, lies, and hypocrisy underneath. Halloween is the underneath brought topside for a while. It's skipping through a field of carnivorous flowers at midnight, while being chased by a herd of zombies, as a poltergeist hurls chairs at you, and you fall into a pit that turns into a maze full of killer clowns, and at the end you get a pillow case full of candy and can TP the house of the person that gives out raisins and toothbrushes.... or you can be a princess poo emoji with a sword, your choice.

Plus, for 1 month every year... the outside world matches my inner world.... and it's fun.

And pumpkins, so many pumpkins to carve. It's my annual artistic outlet.

Most of my tombstones were destroyed in the annual you-decorated-so-we'll-have-a-100kph-wind-storm event, so I'm going to need new ones. I could do the Wallyworld and Dollarama cheap tombstones this year, or I can order some customized good quality ones.

If I customize, here's some of what I'm thinking:

For Rent
Small room
Neighbours are dead quiet

Claire Voyance
She never saw it coming

Barry D Live
He was always clawing his way to the top

Emma Ghost/I Emma Ghost
She didn’t need nobody

Dee Capitated/ D Capitated
She worked hard to get ahead

Dee Composing/ D Composing
Here s/he lies

Eat vegetables
Exercise
Don't smoke
Don't drink
Die anyway

Emma Gonner/ I Emma Gonner
Dying to be here

Rick A Mortis/ Rick Germortis
What a stiff

Barry D Hatchet
''I'm gonna haunt people when I die
I have a list''

Helen Back
She had her demons

Ben Better
Hit my funny bone
Didn't find it humerus

Here lies an atheist
All dressed up and no place to go

Barry M Deep
Pardon me for not rising

If one door closes
And another door opens
Your house is probably haunted

Cat A Comb
No bones about it
She was cryptic

Nora Gretz
May the bridges I burn light the way

Yule B Next
Wish you were here

Stella Live
Always thinking outside the box

Ima Rotten/ Willy Rott/Diane Rott/ Fester N Rott
I.D.K
Just falling apart

Ray N Carnation
Putting the fun back in funeral

Ok, I'm ordering 10 tombstones... this year. It was hard picking which sayings!!!! The artist is going to start designing them next week. The winners are:
Claire Voyance, Dee Capitated, D Composing, Rick R Mortis, Ben Better, the atheist, Barry M Deep, Yule B Next, Ray N Carnation, and the Rott Family.

And I'm ordering TNBC tombstones of Jack, Sally and and a custom build of Zero's doghouse. I've been looking at these for years, and Jack & Sally are on sale so I'm making my move.

It's going to be a good year for my cemetery.

it took months, but they're heeerrrreeee!!!! I got 9 out of the 10, so I'm happy. One of them was broken into a few pieces during delivery, but it was just the bottom so it's on my kitchen table being glued back together.

And since I'm still off work awaiting surgery (or... not????) I just finished designing the next set I'm going to have made. These ones will be wooden/pallet and have cartoon images with the sayings. There's only one I'm not sure about actually having made, it might be too much but it seriously had me snort laughing the first time I read it:

At my funeral take the bouquet off my coffin,
And throw it into the crowd to see who is next

too much????
