3 Straight Days...

New Here
I just came off a period of three straight days where I was nothing but anxious. Of course, this is really nothing new, but for some reason, I had no reason at all for feeling like this; at least, not one that I could think of. What was particularly frustrating was the fact that these were my days off. I was supposed to be doing something fun, or just generally relaxing. But I felt as though my mind was racing so fast, I couldn't focus on just sitting down and clearing my mind. What do you guys do on days like this?

Roll with it? My anxiety is a bit different as I don't have mind racing anymore. It's been a few years now, but I do know how hard it is to manage/control mind racing. If anxiety pops up, I oftentimes take a break and take time to focus on myself. Things that aren't so important will get put off until later and I will focus on things that are easier for me to do and perhaps ease my anxiousness. It does stink when we lose this time to anxiety, but I think it is worth it to find other activities to engage in which ease these feelings (as opposed to giving in and doing nothing). I may not be doing what I had originally planned, but I find that engaging in something will help in the long run. I'm getting better at not giving in to my anxiety and letting it render me non-functional!

Are there other things you can do when your mind becomes anxious with run away thoughts?

I work out, as intensely as I possibly can. Taking out the energy by pounding (and kicking) a heavy bag often takes the edge off. I also meditate. That helps me slow down the thoughts I have. Mostly though, it seems like it's just something I have to wait out. It always fades, eventually. Sometimes it takes hours, sometimes it takes weeks, but it's never permanent. Reminding myself of that helps a little.

I have learned to stop fighting it or trying to change it. It doesn't seem to last as long when I do it that way. I am so irritable right now, cant stand myself.... Try to find things to do around the house, or read... reading really helps... distracts my self abuse if not being able to make this crap go away...I feed the anxiety by feeding the anxiety, if that makes sense. So I just try simple things, like reading, to help my mind get distracted. Not very scientific, but most of the time it works.... hope you feel better soon.

Hmm, there are sometimes things we dont notice that trigger anxiety. And then we think that there is no reason.
Also could've been the crash down of a pile-up after a while of concentrating more on work to ignore feelings?

Sending hugs !

My anxiety moods can last hours or days or weeks. I try it all. Meditation, journeying, yoga, reiki, giving myself a manicure, shampoo my dog, I can't get chores done it's too overwhelming. I need to clean my fridge and I've been trying to get to it for weeks.

@KwanYingirl, have you ever heard of, or tried, an art thing called 'Zentangle'? It is super relaxing for me...Google it, and see what it is about.... hours can go by and I don't realize I have been drawing for that long.. you don't need to be an artist to do this....you don't have to be able to draw.. many examples are given and directions.... maybe you can check it out and see if it is something you would like to try. Would be interested to know if it something you liked and if it helped... sending you 's if accepted.

@Saelben, many sources on Google... it is very theraputic for me. just paper and a pen. Nothing fancy, just let your imagination take over.... let me know if you liked it...'s for you today. You seem to be somewhat on the other side of yesterday. I am happy for you. I know it was rough... hang in there.

Yes @ladee i do zentangles. I got some Buddhist mandala designs on notecards to color in but the paper was to glossy and the pencils were too light. I'd like to pick up some good pencils and a coloring book with real art paper designs. It is very cool and if I can do it anyone can!!!

There are some great Mandala coloring books out now!!!Those are my favorites too... do you find it relaxing? I just go to the hobby store and get sketch pads... a good paper for tangling... and you can color them if you want. I have a set of Prismcolors , and they work great on the sketch paper.... good to know I have a fellow 'tangler' here !!!! Hope you are feeling better and get some good rest.
