Sexual Assault An abuser is moving back to the State where we live

Hello all, I am here to vent and express some concern related to an abuser from my childhood returning to live close by while his father is on hospice care. This individual was incredibly damaging to my childhood and it’s stirred up a lot of emotions / memories within my system. I’m not sure how to go about managing all of this and I’m not certain I can do it from a grounded and present place. I dissociate often but had been doing okay the last several weeks. This has really sent me and I don’t know how to manage.

What sorts of things do you usually do to feel good? Or relax? Or spoil yourself? Can you invest extra time in those things?

And…switching off. If your phone is your access to knowing where this person is, what they’re doing and why, then disconnecting could be incredibly helpful.

Thanks for this- I’ve been thinking about what I like to do to relax and I will make a point of it to invest some more time into doing those things. Disconnecting is always a good idea— a lot going on in the world itself right now. So I’ll be doing this too. Thanks again!

I really hate being reminded some people are alive. 🤬

Less because they’re actually alive, and more because of the energy I have to expend (or face spiking symptoms, turning into an avalanche of them) making the eedjit “dead to me”… again.

Ditto @Sideways , doubling down of fun/relaxing/exciting/centring things when stress kicks up is actually TREATING your PTSD. The more you can blow off stress? The less symptomatic we become. It’s a mistake I’ve made time and time again, thinking I was being “good” by limiting myself, until the whole stress cup thing was explained to me. Oh. OH! Dagnabit.
