Daughter Out of Control with Possible PTSD

New Here
at last..............

I have had ongoing problems with my daughter, 26, for 4 to 5 yrs. She has rages, is agressive and violent towards her parents to the extent of a DVO being instituted!
She does not sleep until 3 or 4 am and consequently wakes at midday and wonders where her life has gone. She is irritable and immature also and has not held down a job for some years.
There is bipolar in the family and we thought that this was what was occuring. Mental Health thought the same but she was not unwell enough to admit. So off she went after blood tests proved that she was ok in terms of general health, pathologically.
She was prescribed Luvox, 100mg, mornings but it has not changed anything.
Another attempt to have her assessed at Mental Health determined that she has the maturity of a 10 year old and she has expressed to me that she often feels numb. Mental Health also thought that she has PTSD but although they stated that there was a bed available did not offer it to her.
She took off to stay with a friend after a few hostile words with me but arrived back after a week and slowly became verbally and physically threatening to the extent that the DVO was put in place to protect me.
She has talked about daily rape and bashings from a previous partner 4 to 5 years ago and self medicated with marijuana to a frightening extent.
Her father unfortunately assulted her when she became physical and abusive towards him for a periof of some months. He regrets same but as she has run out of places to stay she resides near him, but he is more aware of the situation now. We are desperate, can you help.

Welcome Elaine!

Is there anyway to get her online?
Does she accept or agree with the fact that she has PTSD?

Glad you have you here,
I understand you also suffer from PTSD.
dont forget about YOU

Hi Elaine,

It is often terrible to hear these things, and I am sorry you have to suffer and endure them from your daughter, as I have seen the impact on families surrounding PTSD. It is like watching a drug addicts family diminish, to put an even perspective upon it.

You need to get your daughter to see a trauma specialist, someone who is an expert in the field of trauma, and not just a doctor playing guessing games with your daughters well-being.

Jump into your phonebook, find a veterans support center, ring them, and ask them if they know of a civilian trauma therapist / trauma center within you location, someone who deals in all trauma, not just military (most deal with everyone in trauma), as this will put you in a more direct path to find a professional who knows what the hell they are dealing with, and not stuff you, your daughter, or family around in immediate help and assessment.

Your daughter needs to identify she has a problem, and how that problem is affecting everyone else, her included, and the iminent outcome that could prevail if not treated effectively, ie. hospitalization, suicide, and many other disorders and problems that the brain can create for us. If your daughter has suffered trauma though, she needs an expert in trauma to help get some of the initial help moving, because chances are, she is in denial, will remain in denial, and knows no different unless she accepts something is wrong.
