I only feel safe and secure if there is a locked door. If there isn't a locked door around me I sleep with a weapon or a knife. I really don't like being so alert.

I use to sleep with a Sig 226 9mm by my head and a Mossberg 590 12 gauge under my bed, until I became suicidal. Now I think it is best that my weapons stay locked in a gun safe at my parents house many states away from me. I know the means are still there, as I have been hospitalized before for SI, but it gives my wife a false sense of security, and her happiness is my happiness. Now I sleep with my Ka-bar in my night stand. If anyone breaks into my house when I'm sleeping, I'll be hooking an jabbing.

Not when I don't want to kill anyone on accident.

My warm fuzzies aren't worth someone else's life.

I totally get the concept that having certain things around helps with feeling safe when going to sleep.

But a weapon by the bed? I'd be frightened that if someone does come in, and I don't wake up pronto and get to it first, I've left a weapon right by my bed for them to use against me. It kind of seems like inviting disaster...

I keep a razor sharp machete tucked between my bed and the wall. Out of sight, out of mind but if an incident happend, I know exactly where it is and can find it blindfolded. And it'seems concealed, even my landlord didnt see it inspecting the house. Do you sleep with it in your hand, or within reach?

I did a poll on ptsd polls and it looks like quite a few of us like an extra layer of preparedness.

I sleep with three blades, a switch knife under my pillow, a large machete between the mattresses, and I have a hair pin I use to keep my hair up that is actually a stiletto blade. I'm currently saving for a .38 and a shotgun... I may have been caught unarmed before... But I will never again be a victim.

I like to keep a weapon on my key-chain. Then I always make sure my key-chain is on my nightstand before I go to sleep. Since my type of PTSD makes me forgetful, that helps me make sure I never fall asleep with the keys in the door.

When I was still in my abuse situation, I hid a knife in my mattress-it was a spring mattress and I cut a slit in the side to fit it in. Eventually I stopped carrying it because I realize a good pair of steel toes are much more useful and in my abuse situation I was often too paralyzed by my abuser to actually act on anything.

I don't sleep with weapons now because those who have abused me are not permitted in my home. They certainly aren't getting into my bedroom.

I survived a rape in 1983 and for three years slept with a loaded gun under my pillow. I don't recommend it, but at the time, it made me feel safe when nothing else did.

Now I trust my dogs to run off people, they aren't very big, but my scottie is freaking loud.

I tend to have weapons throughout my home sine I no longer have a large dog. However, I am not that likely to need them. Those who were a threat are not so much now, but it is a comfort to have weapons within reach.
