I'm new here and I thought I'd say hi and introduce myself.

After years of PTSD, countless doctors and medications, I thought I'd give a chat room a go to see if it would do much difference.

I've been suffering PTSD since I was a child, I was abused since age 5. Then when barely 20 years old I was gang raped viciously. I was already suffering PTSD when that happened to me, so you can imagine in what state I was in in the immediate aftermath. The gang rape was back in the mid 90's, and I can't believe that I'm still feeling like this. Aren't the symptoms supposed to let up? Is there no healing? I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with this level of pain. The intensity is too much.

Sorry if this seems too much from the first post, but I simply can't seem to deal with it anymore. I really am at the wit's end.

    Any comments would be appreciated

Hi Audrey (interesting name) and welcome to the forum.

The intensity of symptoms depends on each person and traumas. Many of us have endured trauma piled on top of more traumas throughout our PTSD.

There is one way through it and that is facing, processing, feeling and dealing with our trauma head on. It's not an easy process by any means nor a short one. After that we learn how to manage our PTSD.

Some of us choose to use medications while dealing with the trauma and some don't. Therapy is highly recommended. Seeking out therapists with experience with trauma victims and PTSD even more so.

Anyways have a look around, check out the information and trauma forum. You will find lot's of information to learn how to cope and manage and get an idea of how to begin healing.

Hi, Welcome to the community. I am new here too. I felt like I had found a home, when I found this place. There are so many great stories here about people getting better, I find it builds my hope.

I hope that it can give you a little ray of hope too.

    Safe hugs, Eve

    Hello Audrey,

Welcome to the forum. Sounds as though you have landed in the right place. I have found the information and support here to be quite helpful. I too am a survivor of childhood abuse. They key is "survivor" not victim. Though the road may seem very slow, there is hope, I assure you of that. You just have to somehow figure out how to grab hold of it. PTSD is a tough road but healing can occur. Hang in there and just a little word of advise, in my humble oppinion, (IMHP) go slow at first and just kind of soak things in. When I first started I just kind of jumped in head first and it was alot harder than if I had initially checked out the information provided in each thread on how to go about things in a healthy for myself way. Check out the information threads if you are up to it, but mainly, take care of yourself.

Hello Audrey, welcome (I'm new here too). I may have spilled a little too much info as well but, I know for me, it's easier to just get it off my chest all at once - like pulling a bandaid off. The problem now is dealing with the wound that never seems to heal. So, maybe we can both start here with these other supportive people who can empathize (this seems to be a good place to do that so far). Again, welcome.

    Thank you

    Hello everyone,

    Thank you for the replies.

I feel better now that I've made the first contact. Because the symptoms are so severe I've been isolating myself from family and friends and I think in the long term that is not going to help me. But it's hard to explain why there are so many times when you don't want to go out or socialise, why you are teary all the time, etc. Nobody seems to understand. Thank heavens you do!

I look forward to getting to know you, and of being able to help as well.
