PtsdSpokane

New Here
I had another really bad day at work today, and my nurse rx'd me Lorazepam to take when i feel like I am having a panic attack. Anyone ever taken it? I wonder if it will help. I am taking the day off tomorrow for a break from my life :wall:

Lorazepam is a benzo it is a relaxant that works very quickly, it is important if they gave you suplingual that you let it completly disolve under your tongue. what dose did they give you. Its also known as Ativan it is fairly effective for most. Good luck with it. There are very few side effects that I know of. I have used before with good successe.--Mouse

She gave me 1mg tabs and said I could take up to 2 at a time I think. How long should I expect it to take for them to work? Are we talking seconds, minutes, hours..?

She did not give me the sublinguals..should I ask for those instead of the tablets?

If memory serves me it takes about 20 - 30 min. and you'll feel something PtsdSpokane. I've taken it before. Relax and enjoy a short break. And, my best to you.

I personally havent been on Lorazepam...but have tryed Serepax and Valium, which just made me sick! So i was put on Xanax(which is a benzo, like valium and serepax too i think). I was on it for about 8 months, and had to keep upping my dosage(started at .5, stopped at 2.5) for it to have some effect(the doc who perscribed me it forgot to mention it can be addictive!), then i stopped it for about 2 months...Then started having major major panic attacks with all the physical symtoms feeling like i was about to die! So im back on it now at 2.5mg, but only when i feel an attack come on, or have the physical symtoms and all that.
Good luck with the meds.

I would as for sublingual and tonight my dr. gave me 7mg, they are a shorter and faster acting benzo the other oneklonopin or clonazepam last longer but takes longer to work my advice take thye 2 and enjoy the break

Yeah, lorazepam will calm you down.
I remember taking for quite awhile last year, and I don't recall having bad side-effects or anything.
Just wasn't strong enough for me

hm..well so far I am not seeing any real effect. I will give it a couple more days..my appointment with the counselor is friday. Anyone know if she will be able to rx me meds??

If I'm remembering correctly, you should be feeling the effects of lorazepam within 45 min at least! (normally around 15-20 min)

And if your counsellor is not a Doctor (pyschiatrist, family doc, specialist) she will not be able to write you the script (at least not in Canada).
Although, if she works at a doctors clinic, I'm sure if you're nice she can probally get a doc to write it for you :)

I dont really know..I found her through the EAP program at my work. They kind of gave me a list of counselors in my area that they would cover and I just picked one that specialized in PTSD.

Although the nurse at work as been VERY helpful in getting these under control. She seems genuinely interested in helping me feel better..which is nice. It's good to know that someone takes this seriousely...
