Word finding difficulties

Hi guys, does anyone here experience difficulties pronouncing/finding words post-PTSD? I've noticed in the last few months I have more troubles finding/pronouncing words and it's a thing that is really annoying me because it seems harder to even form sentences at times. I think it may be due to pretty high stress levels I've been experiencing post PTSD for a year now. Can anyone relate?

This can be caused by stress, but other things can make finding words hard, too. There were a couple of meds I was on that made finding words hard, and I'm hearing that a LOT of people are having this issue after being on lockdown.

Yeah, figured stress may be a culprit. Just noticing that sometimes pronouncing basic words causes trouble which I find unnerving, but do notice it is worse when stressed (but also present when not stressed). But also found that PTSD affects brain areas connected with memory and the like so maybe that is just affected a bit as well.

Due to blunt force trauma, I have seen a neurologist concerning lesions in the white matter on my brain after an MRI. Although my learning disability did affect my words previously, I was told by the specialist to uptake on certain vitamins - B and D (as stress depletes) to assist with memory, word retrieval or general fog. *This might be considered after a proper blood panel as well as review of one’s intake.

I was pretty livid at the time because I wanted something more substantial. However, after several months of swapping off one med and increasing the specialist‘s suggestions... I do function much better as a whole. My PTSD at times still will cloud my communication or cognitive processing, especially during Freeze Mode but those symptoms are often managed through time, patience and therapy.

For some, ‘word salad’ can go away. There is always hope, so be gentle to yourself. Welcome to the board.

Thank you for your reply. Glad your new regime is working out for you. I find the more stressed I am it gets worse, but I have also read that the brain can recover from stress-induced damage (to brain areas involved with memory) with time and proper living conditions (exercise supposedly helps). I will look into vitamins D and B and see if I can add them to my diet.

Yeah i can relate. I've suffered from 3 head injuries and emotional and psychological abuse and violence, I frequently have trouble speaking and forming sentences. I have to really focus on my words.

Sorry, that sounds really awful. I just hate that I'm sometimes talking gibberish words and need time to try and formulate what I wanna say. Feel like ever 10 sentences I get stuck for a moment and it just disrupts the general flow of any convo I'm in sometimes.

Hi kirbs. I relate. It makes me so frustrated. I know the word or sentence I want to say, but my brain can't figure out how to express it. I used to be able to multi task and comprehend multiple step instructions. Not anymore. I hate it.

The word-finding difficulty started for me when I was in my early 40's and has increased as I have aged over the past 20 years. Not to mention the fibro fog I have. Ugg It is so embarrassing to be having a conversation then suddenly forget what I was talking about or what I was about to say, much less finding the words to say it. lol but fortunately I have a good sense of humor and try to laugh it off....at least most of the time but it sure can be frustrating at times as well.

i am severely dyslexic (i [use. thanks, brain. 🤪] software to help me. but sometimes it fails. because i use real words. or mix words up. or mix their place up in the sentence. instead of just misspelling something easily identifiable. like "saver" instead of "severe." then i read back my own statement. and i am like wtf?) and when i am stressed or upset or tired. i can become almost incoherent. and being able to read back what i write and identify the mistakes is almost impossible. when i have more brain power i can notice really obvious errors. but mostly what you get is what you get.

Conversations when I can't get words out or feel stressed and forget everything. Words, typing, opening the same program I don't want 5 times before opening the one I want. Used to be able to type 75-100 wpm and now I type 3-4 words a minute because I have to go fix every third word. That and I have to go back and rewrite it so its readable and doesn't change thoughts three times a sentence.

Its like everything else PTSD. Its annoying, it gets in the way and if you stress over it, it gets worse. In my better moments I have made sure everyone I talk to regularly knows whats going on.
