    Trauma and isolation

@spinningmytires that's a lot of people in the same family... And you're right, trauma is a common experience, so common in fact that everybody who lived more than a few years (and even then coming out of the womb is a trauma, so our life begins with trauma) has experienced trauma in one form...

    Trauma and isolation

Forgot to mention that apparently vets have one of the highest suicide rate amongst different professions...

    Trauma and isolation

And your experiences were in US(I assume) but imagine trying to share stuff that happened in Africa or South America 40 years ago. Different living worlds and different mental worlds (normal life versus living in a traumatic environment) meanings that others around you find no common grounds on...

    Trauma and isolation

@Ronin I do understand because I also have a rather complex (and long) history and that makes it all the more difficult. And I find it strange that this fact that not being able to share adds another layer of isolation to already isolated individuals is not discussed more in literature about...

    Trauma and isolation

I was wondering how many of you found that, on top of suffering from the various physical and psychological consequences of trauma, there's another layer added to this: the isolation caused by not really being able to share the trauma with others. Because let's face it, trauma by it's very...

    Regret disclosing abusive past

I agree with earlier comments: give your partner time, for him this "discovery" is a traumatic event in itself and he needs time to process. Put yourself in his place, all that time he thought you were in place "a" and he suddenly discovers that you're wayyyyy over there in place "x", he's...

Black Lives Matter - a converstation

Interesting topic, didn't expect to find it here. I'm Caucasian and married to a Chinese woman. When I married her a long time ago (25 years) people had all kinds of weird reactions such as "oh I don't know if I could marry a Chinese woman, they're so different from us", or "I've always liked...

How difficult is it to find a trauma specialized therapist

Not sure what you mean by "used people like me", what kind of people am I? And again, what you're saying is right and I actually belonged to that category for a long time (people with heavy trauma who don't even recognize it), for instance I was (for reasons that are too long to mention here)...

How difficult is it to find a trauma specialized therapist

Actually, but that's another subject altogether, I noticed while browsing places such as Twitter and Reddit that there's trauma and then there's trauma. And by reading on those medias you get the impression that it's "in" to be traumatized and that everybody and their sisters and brothers and...

How difficult is it to find a trauma specialized therapist

Thanks for your reply and I find it all the more interesting because I met another person who's been stabbed several times while at war and he was saying basically the same thing, i.e. that the only therapist who really helped him had PTSD himself (so was the victim of trauma and was a veteran)...
