    A thread for scientific nerdiness

Found a cheery little fact today that made me laugh whilst running through an oceanography text book...there is a sea cucumber now named after trump due to its toupe like spines and orange body colour. It also is a deposit feeder so relies on fish poop for sustenance (savage marine biologists)

Emerg Services Advice please - inquest found we could have done more

We could have carried more oxygen, could have transported him out of the system faster and could have provided oxygen whilst we transported him out of the situation (but this would have killed him even faster as it was all below 6m) and that we if we hadnt been exhausted (700m sprint swim) we...

    Finally back into the water

After nearly 2 years I finally forced myself to get back under the water today! Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and was kinda pleasant actually. First step towards getting back to the old times

    A thread for scientific nerdiness

I mean I think deep sea angler fish have it worse... The male is about 50-70% smaller than the female. It has no digestory tract, it is in fact a living pair of male genitalia. The males only role in life is to reproduce (it has about 2 weeks to do this before it starves)...unfortunately this is...

    A thread for scientific nerdiness

Did you know that if all life on earth, and every single piece of matter dissapeared, except for nematode worms, we could still make out the surface features of the planet, the position of every single car, building plane. Even the shape of animals could be seen, even identified by the parasitic...

    A thread for scientific nerdiness

Found out this interesting little thing: theres a point in the ocean that is impossible to explore. It is around 2500 metres down in the Kermadac trench in the pacific. Every single ROV (remotley operated vehicle) that has been sent there has failed to return... The cause: Its a giant squid...
