The trouble is that psych's and therapists often have to put a "diagnosis" in the box in order to justify treatment. The formal diagnosis is less important than the objectives the two of you work out between you.... hence the question about what you want from therapy.

It's part of several types of therapy that clients are encouraged to carry their therapist in their mind as a support in times of stress...... so that the positivity and safety of the therapeutic relationship can be used outside the therapy room. Getting support from looking at the therapists...
It sounds like you have a psychodynamic therapist...... they are trained not to intervene and above all not to show their thoughts or personality..... there is minimal structure. Psychodynamic is not a "relational" therapy so there's not expectation of reciprocity in the process.

Feeling uncomfortable in therapy is part of the process.... but not so uncomfortable that you want to stop.... managing the stress level of the client is the therapists job.....so telling them what you are feeling is important.
