I looked on Psychology Today website at counselor profiles who took my insurance and specialized in PTSD/trauma. I have been seeing her twice a week for 5 years and couldn’t have found a better match.
I was switched from Abilify to Saphris almost 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know how long it takes for it to kick in? My mood seems to be getting more depressed and I wonder if it's due to the change in meds. Thanks for your help!
Just read through this entire thread. I can SO relate to this topic! I have acted out sexually my entire life; in my youth as a sexually reactive child, in my teens and young adult hood with one night stands, then cyber sex, and always by self injurious behavior.... I am now 52 and married (hate...
My T always has her phone next to her and looks at it every time it goes off. She has a hubby on a heart transplant list so she has to. It doesn't bother me at all BC I know why she does it. If it was for any other reason, I think it would bother me.
I have been in therapy since 1991 and have only done twice a week BC it's what works for me. No shame needed. I hope you can ask your T for the additional session. I am sure she has/had other clients go that often. Good luck!
I totally understand. Was seeing my T twice a week until a month ago when her hubby had heart surgery. Now it's weekly at best, and I'm struggling. Hope you find a program that meets your needs! Take care!
I sent my abuser a very long e-mail detailing everything he did to me and how it affected me then and now. It was very therapeutic to get it off my chest. He wrote back and asked for forgiveness, which was more than I was expecting but didn't answer any of the questions I asked about why he did...
So sorry you are struggling. I take Naltrexone 50 mg for dissociation and it has been a godsend. I used to have very similar and worse, symptoms. Maybe your prescriber would be willing to try you on it to see if it helps.
We don't phone each other at all. All communication is via text or e-mail, which is fairly frequent due to attachment issues and my significant trauma history. E-mails get a quick reply to be discussed in session and texts are the same. I find the frequent contact to help our therapeutic...
I see my T twice a week and am also in an Art Therapy Group for Survivors of Sexual Abuse that meets for an hour/week. I am also in contact with my T nearly every day via text or e-mail.
I was misdiagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder, Alcoholic and Drug Dependence prior to disclosing my childhood sexual abusers from ages 3-28. I was then correctly diagnosed as PTSD.
I have been seeing my T for 2 1/2 years. She says and does so much that helps me that it's difficult to pinpoint what helps the most. She always believes in my potential to heal, encourages me to go outside my comfort zones and tackle my fears, and even says "good nite" via text to "Little...
Love the blanket idea! My T has blankets in her office I will wrap up in sometimes when I want to "hide." Glad you were able to use it for safety and soothing! Good work!!
@Ocean5. I wrote a VERY long letter to the minister who abused me. I asked for his e-mail address and surprisingly, he sent it almost immediately. He wrote back simply saying, "It's forever before me. Please forgive me." No closure, really, but it felt good to get it out.
@Chava, the trip to...
