News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

Stores in my town are really getting battered. There was a definite change in my place following yesterday’s government announcement- a sudden influx of people who’d been ignoring it up to now, who were shocked at the state of our shelves and walking round looking confused. My company’s being...

    Vegan Safe Space

A lot of the milk replacements have added calcium, and are made up to be as nutritious as milk. Don’t know what brands you have, but Alpro is the one I use, and they all contain calcium. Flaxseed is often used as an egg replacer, I think. Also, the oil is supposed to be good- full of omega-3...

Oat milk makes a mean hot chocolate! I struggle with tofu, but I think it has more to do with limited buying options. The only kind readily available here is the silken stuff, and having once tried to drain it, and utterly failed, I’ve never tried again. Keep thinking I should, though. I eat...

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

It’s almost as if people don’t realise that supermarkets are places of mass gatherings. It’s one that’s been bothering me because I work in one. I thought, erroneously, that the panic buying would die out after a few days and then the shops would go really quiet, because it seemed obvious to me...

There’s a bunch of videos going round of Italians in quarantine singing with their neighbours. Kinda beautiful. This one’s not great, but you get the idea-

Any advice for not getting razor burn?

Really good emollient- mine comes on prescription for excema, but you can buy similar in pharmacies. Put it on dry, then shave, then wash, but don’t use soap. People with excema get given the emollient to use in place of soap. It works.

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

It’s as if everyone on my Facebook feed has suddenly woken up to the fact that the only people panic buying is actually harming is the elderly and the vulnerable. Bit slow there, folks.

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

The workshop I was meant to be attending this weekend has been cancelled. Totally understandable, but no-one’s providing refunds because the government hasn’t (yet) advised it. Not that I wanted to spend five hours on a train with a bunch of strangers. It sucks all round. This morning my T and...

I saw a headline on a national newspaper yesterday, reporting that shops are going to start rationing supplies— because that’ll help calm the panickers! :banghead:

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

The thing with panic buying is it’s self-perpetuating. One person sees people walking round with five packs of toilet roll, they think there’s a problem and maybe they should... and then it spreads, just like a virus. When one product runs out people move on to the next thing, and here now we’re...

Other The Joint Hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos rabbit hole; Experience and information please.

My ‘diagnosis’ was a throwawy comment from a doctor at the end of an appointment about something else. It wasn’t until I went back years later and told them the issues I was having that I got given the Beighton test and then referred to a physiotherapist. Based upon his reaction, I don't think...

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

One home delivery customer here ordered a whole pallet of toilet roll. Not even kidding. We don’t have any cases as yet. And yeah, why toilet roll? A colleague said to me ‘but we have a vaccine for flu’. Yes we do, which most people don’t get.

News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

It'd be lovely if people did take the risk more seriously, not just with coronavirus, but with all virus. I’m not immuno-suppressed, but I was as a child, when I got a stomach bug that very nearly killed me. I take it seriously, but others do not get why I make such a big deal of it. So many...

My contribution to the bird theme- I came across this guy at a bird sanctuary in the Lake District some years ago. The keepers were trying to make him fly for us but he wasn’t having it. He preferred to waddle-

    CBTi experiences?

That’s pretty much my experience so far. I’ve had to pull back on the sleep restriction because it became too dangerous to continue, but I’m still sticking to the rest of it. Relaxation is also a trigger, so mindfulness, body scans etc., are another no go (as are warm baths, milky drinks and...

    Supermarket "quiet" hours

I work in a 24 hour supermarket and the only quiet hours are overnight, and that’s only if the night crew haven’t been messing about with the radio! I love the idea, though.

    CBTi experiences?

@TruthSeeker you’re right, a certain part of it is to do with how much I already know. So far, 80-90% of what we’ve covered is stuff I already practice, much of it I’ve been doing for years. Just accepting the fact that I’d been put on the course was an issue in itself, one I talked through...

    CBTi experiences?

I’ve looked. Trouble is, I can find plenty on CBTi and imsomnia, but nothing on CBTi and PTSD. I can see exactly how it would work for people who don’t have comorbid conditions, but I’m not one of them. The woman running the course has been understanding and said it’s going to be harder for me...

    CBTi experiences?

I’m currently going through a CBTi course (cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia), at an NHS sleep clinic. It involves a combination of sleep hygiene, sleep restriction and CBT techniques to improve/fix insomnia. Most of the techniques I already know and have been practicing for years, but...
