i think there is a queue of people on this website who are all on your side too ;) i can see why you might feel guilt about all this. people do have a tendency to question themselves when someone else has a go at them. did i deserve that? did i do or say something wrong? etc etc etc but this is...

Therapist Reaction When Telling Them Something Hard

I just cant see a connection between a therapist frowning and the patient. I can imagine frowning at the thought of the traumatic event or the person who caused it. I just cant see any reason to frown at a patient. It just does not make sense so it has to be something else.

why are you apologising? You are not the problem in this situation. If he is causing you distress then he should not be allowed near you. There are ethical guidelines and codes of conduct and this guy is clearly not adhering to them

    Sufferer Another Newbie

I matched an interest with a career. Psychology has always interested me but at a very amateurish level. It wasn't until this year that I discovered that I could do something with it but that is just me and my own circumstances. Right now I am studying at a higher level so really the same as 17...

education? I am actually wondering if it would be beneficial for a PTSD sufferer to do something through open university. You do not need qualifications to do their courses and if you think about what is involved then maybe it makes sense? I cant answer that question but it would give you...

    Sufferer Another Newbie

trucking is ok if you are happy to go out and do long hours for a comfortable living (comfortable depends on your own opinion) but that's pretty much all it is. I am happy with a comfortable living but I need more from a job. I need goals, ambition, direction, achievement and above all that...

Sufferer Multiple Traumas And Self Doubt (pretty Long Post)

i could not agree more. I hate unprofessionalism no matter what the job is. The extent that you have described is inexcusable. In that position you cant just ignore something that you dont understand. You refer the person to someone who can help them. Or am i being too simplistic in my view? It...

Sufferer Multiple Traumas And Self Doubt (pretty Long Post)

it sounds more like circumstances beyond your control than bad judgement. In fact it may even be good judgements (or decisions) on your part but they have unwittingly placed you in bad circumstances. strangely I do not know how to define instincts (head thinks, heart feels, instincts are...

    Sufferer Another Newbie

a dog person? I suppose nobody is perfect lol I prefer my own company. I have been driving trucks for the last 14 years and most of the people in that industry are male, 50+ and moaners. It kind of puts you off having a social life. This year things have finally clicked into place and now I am...

    Sufferer Another Newbie

you can be physically alone without being completely isolated. The majority of people here are on this forum for the same reasons as you. The details may differ but the general reason to be here is to talk to people. Admittedly I am not a sufferer but I do want to specialize in PTSD as a...

Therapist Reaction When Telling Them Something Hard

is this a one off or have you noticed a change which has remained consistent? I am just thinking that it is possible that your therapist was simply having a bad day. It happens to everybody and while its true that you should leave your private life outside work, it is really not that easy in...

    Sufferer Another Newbie

that sounds promising! just remember that a therapist is not allowed to judge you and everything you say is strictly confidential. on this website nobody has any reason to judge you and it is totally anonymous. in both cases you are in control and you open up when you want to

take as long as you need. I am only just starting my journey towards becoming a therapist but I do have an idea of how it works from personal experience. Making appointments is fine but sometimes you just don't feel like talking and these times will probably coincide with those appointments. I...

    Scared

I am not sure I should continue with this conversation. I am studying psychology to help people like you and i am on this website to learn about PTSD from first hand discussions. I want to be good at this and all it takes is someone with a bad attitude to put people off seeking therapy. This is...

Sufferer Multiple Traumas And Self Doubt (pretty Long Post)

is it a doctor as in GP who says you just need a boyfriend? I cant imagine a GP being trained to make a judgement on any psychological case. That is why they are so quick to write prescriptions instead of carrying out analysis. They don't have the time to diagnose or treat and I very much doubt...

Sufferer Multiple Traumas And Self Doubt (pretty Long Post)

hi this may seem a little odd but do you think that you are a good judge of character? Do you trust too quickly/easily? Do you rely on your instincts or ignore them when you let people into your life? I am not trying to be negative about you. I am only exploring a possibility on how its...

Therapist Reaction When Telling Them Something Hard

I probably should not say this but I will anyway because I have been there myself. picture a police officer. The chances are you are now thinking a person standing there wearing a police uniform. People generally see the uniform but not the person wearing that uniform. They are 2 separate...

    Scared

this sounds completely unacceptable and under the circumstances, can you not only put a complaint in but also insist on a female nurse? I know that in the UK they are trying to match up female support with female victims (which makes sense so why is this not common practice?) but I dont know if...

Psychiatrist Said Therapy Has High Success Rate For Curing Ptsd

I would be very interested in this CLAIM being challenged and validated. From a science perspective, this is a huge claim to make and all claims MUST be evidenced. So where is this evidence? for the sake of the people on this website (and of course other sufferers), I would to see this claim...

Sufferer New And At A Weird Point In My Recovery

yes they are. Not so good when they make some strange attachment to the bathroom. He regularly just sits in the bath which is sometimes wet. That big bushy tail then gets wet and off he goes charging around with what could be described as a wet mop sticking out of his bottom. He gets wet...

How Do You Respond To Therapist When You Don't Always Agree With Them?

100% agree with this! They are basically coming up with a theory which must be testable. As a patient, I would have no issue with you asking me how I came up with a theory. The therapist MUST have a thought process which brings them to their conclusion which they have no reason to withhold from...

    I Hate Christmas

is it really a bad thing to not celebrate this time of year? I dont celebrate it either but my reasons are straightforward. 1. It may be seen as a religious holiday and I am not religious. 2. It may be seen as a family occasion and i am not in contact with my family. 3. It is too commercialised...

Psychiatrist Said Therapy Has High Success Rate For Curing Ptsd

I wholeheartedly agree with the last thing said. I was at a psychology/pseudoscience conference today and the fact is that psychologists still know very little about the brain and how it works. It is such a complex thing and lets face facts, studying the brain is not like other sciences like...
