Is Anyone Choosing To Deal With Ptsd Without Meds?

Have you read the book "The Body Keeps the Score"? He (the trauma researcher) talks about how meds stop people from feeling - the good feels, and also the negative feelings connected to trauma - which also means that they can't fully process it, in his understanding.

Is Anyone Choosing To Deal With Ptsd Without Meds?

That's 100% why I don't want to take them. Honestly, I took one and I was so exhausted and that led me to feeling super f*cking depressed, like suicidal depressed. I can't deal with that short term...no way. I even feel much better today and I haven't taken one, granted I saw my lovely...

Is Anyone Choosing To Deal With Ptsd Without Meds?

Yeah, well said! I don't want to numb, but I also don't want to feel out of control and hopeless - I'd like to gain some ground and learn to manage. I really want to do it that way but it's hard managing the emotions sometimes! Which methods have you found help you best :)?

Is Anyone Choosing To Deal With Ptsd Without Meds?

Hi everyone, I've got a packet of pills in front of me and I'm really not sure about taking them longterm. I've taken one so far. My anxiety and depression are pretty awful and I don't want to take anything that will make me worse, even temporarily - because I'm not sure I could battle it out...

A Big Warm Thank You To Everyone Here

Hi everyone!! I have truly had a roller-coaster couple of weeks, with a sudden onset of quite extreme PTSD symptoms. I just had counselling and acupuncture (holy-shit-amazing!) today and I am feeling a fair bit better - still a long way to go, but I really feel a lot better, well enough to...

    Scary Flashback, Panic

Thanks so much shimmerz. I think for me, it's the flashback aftermath, I'm normally quite anxious for a few days after I get triggered and then I feel in a constant state of panic sometimes, but it should get easier and normally goes away. Thanks so much, think I just needed to hear that things...

What Has Helped The Most/been Most Healing

Well said :). What kind of dietary changes did you make :)? I'm trying to do the same. I realize when I get anxious, I can't really tell I'm hungry so I've been badly under eating which has obviously skyrocketed the anxiety aha! Trying to cram in a million healthy calories now :p.

What Has Helped The Most/been Most Healing

Oh I also want to mention the Headspace app, it's been awesome. It really focuses on bodily awareness and keeping focused and this allows me to let go of my thoughts and concentrate. I feel I NEED meditation daily right now, but before Headspace I found it too hard to concentrate and would just...

    Scary Flashback, Panic

Thanks a lot guys. It's just so hard to feel so scared sometimes for no real goddamn reason. I know I just need to take it more slowly and go easy on myself....I also think I was less aware of my triggers before and now I know better. It's just hard when I'm feeling anxious and I'm trying to...

    Scary Flashback, Panic

Hi Guys, I'm feeling pretty scared, I had a triggering massage, which I feel re-traumatised me or has sent me into a panic and massive flashback. I felt very scared and like I was totally relieving the experience - just totally scared and overwhelmed. I'm still feeling panicked, pretty...

    Good Distractions

What are some good distractions you guys use? I'm finding it difficult at the moment, especially working from home, not to ruminate all the time - which makes me worse. Being social, writing and some music help....but I'd like some more :). Any suggestions? Just not good at keeping my mind busy...

    Ptsd And Childbirth

Hi Steve! Sorry to hear about your worries, I really hope that your wife will be okay :). I am not very knowledgeable about childbirth (I've never done it lol), other people should be able to give you a better answer, but I would recommend making sure you both take measures to help manage her...

    Cold Showers Working Wonders

Hello! For the past few days I've been blasting myself with cold water for 10-30 seconds during my shower and it provides immediate relief from dissociation, anxiety and depression (especially depression). After doing it, I feel very safe, happy and content and far less stressed and anxious...

I'm Opening Up To My Family About My Feelings And It's Hard

Hi Mim28, so sorry you feel this way! It's very hard and painful. I think there is so much shame attached to PTSD, at least for me, I feel very ashamed sometimes (especially on a rocky day - even though I know it's not my fault!!). I studied shame for my dissertation in uni... I remember that...

Feeling Constantly Scared And On Edge

Thanks guys ^^! I've been doing some somatic experiencing and it's helped loads....I'm still scared or anxious but far less...It's normally at night really, I've always felt a little anxious at night "like what is out there?" "what if I'm in danger?". Then it's just heightened now....

Feeling Constantly Scared And On Edge

Thank you so much Enalia!! It really helps so much to know I'm not alone, just having you all understand really makes so much difference and I realize I'm not crazy; I'm just frightened and triggered unnecessarily by a faulty burglar alarm (nervous system :)). I have a massage on Friday, I'm...

Feeling Constantly Scared And On Edge

Thanks so much for your kind reply Ladee ^^!! It was like a lovely warm hug lol!! Good thing about PMS, is that you know it's a temporary low :). I'm feeling confident I'll get better....I think it's just about avoiding stress and getting the right support :). Thank you so much for your reply :)!

Feeling Constantly Scared And On Edge

Yes, totally - you feel safe and then boom!! It's back. Hopefully it will lessen with time - I'm sure it will. I've been doing some somatic experiencing exercises, which help a lot. The main things that make it evaporate - are being with friends, being with animals and working. Thanks for...

Feeling Constantly Scared And On Edge

hi everyone, At the moment I am feeling constantly frightened. This fear just sits with me all the time. It goes away when I'm with people I know. It's strong at night and when I wake up from nightmares, which happen a lot and are about all kinds of stupid horrible things (like my baby niece...

The "f" Word Will Help You Heal!!

I'd say 'understanding' him and why he did what he did or ended up that way and how being a f*cker negatively f*cks up his life, has helped me develop some more peace and allowed me to let go of my anger and pain around it all; I think he was always gonna be that way so hey, ho I can move on. I...
