    Exactly. Thank you.

    Difficulty Moving And Speaking?

Derealization has to do with not feeling connected to your environment. Depersonalization is about not feeling connected to oneself. Not to worry. The episodes just mean you are feeling stressed. I did intensive work with an older, highly experienced clinical psychologist. He had experience...

DID How to ask about alters, grumpy the cat

I am very aware. Seriously aware. Read my initial statement again, please; it was about "flaunting" one's multiplicity.

    Scared About Dbt

I disagree. DBt is about skill building. It takes time to build skills. Personally, I would think it beneficial to take DBT over and over again, going a bit deeper each time, until you've really nailed the skills.

DID How to ask about alters, grumpy the cat

Yes, that makes sense. If she is giving you mixed messages, it's certainly ok to ask her for clarification.

    Differences Between Emotional Flashbacks

This is a classic example of depersonalization, a form of dissociation. This is derealization, another type of dissociation. In general, dissociation is something you do to escape the present when you are overwhelmed by fear, etc.. A flashback is a physical or emotional return to a past...

    Help Me Define "flashback"

I like the way Blue Orange explained it. A flashback takes you back to the moment of your trauma. A visual and/or auditory flashback will cause you to relive the trauma visually and/or auditorily. An emotional flashback will bring feelings from your past trauma into the present. A body...

DID How to ask about alters, grumpy the cat

As an ex-multiple, my advice is not to ask. The primary reason is, if she wants you to know, she'll tell you herself. Multiples do their best to hide their DID from both themselves and others. Asking would make her and/or her alters highly uncomfortable at the least, and quite possibly very...

    Difficulty Moving And Speaking?

When your body isn't cooperating - feels strange - that's depersonalization. When everything around you seems unreal or far away, that's derealization. Both are forms of dissociation. I was diagnosed with both DID and PTSD in 2002, but I did heal. Now I no longer have either diagnosis.

    Sufferer Intro: Ptsd And Did

Hi Whispering! I am so busy, I just don't have the time or energy to share my entire story. I do share bits and pieces of it when I think my experience will be helpful to other members.

    DID I think i have d i d and it's panicking me

There's only one of you. Everyone has parts, wears different hats. The difference between a non-multiple and a multiple is that a multiple's parts are "further apart", more dissociated.

    Einstein And 'dissociation'

'Zoning out' is dissociation. We all do it to some degree. Also, dissociation is not always associated with a trauma history.

Annoyed With Therapist For No Good Reason

Transference is very important. Deep work can't be done without some transference.

    DID I think i have d i d and it's panicking me

I actually had an alter - Cubbie, also called SuperCub - who used to take all my exams. My point being, DID is a strategy for managing life. Multiples are multiple because DID 'works' for them. DID helps us manage life; it's only a hindrance when one is destabilized. I suspect those who fear...

    Can Retrauma Increase Anxiety?

The short answer is "yes". However, I have found that I will come down slowly and eventually hit my baseline anxiety level. The speed at which this 'return' occurs is dependent upon the severity of the retraumatization and my level of support at the time of trauma.

    DID I think i have d i d and it's panicking me

Wow. Where did that come from? You speak as though equating DID with a psychotic disorder. Multiples - people with DID - are generally highly intelligent. We are lawyers, physicians, scientists, professors, mathematicians...we are found in every profession. IF you have DID, you needn't worry...

    Scared To Sleep...

Yes, I went through a period like that; I was afraid to go to sleep and would prop myself up at night to try to stay awake. I became seriously sleep deprived. I take Benadryl to help me sleep when necessary. I've found it works a LOT better than the prescription sleep aids, and it doesn't have...

    Hospitalization?

What I hear is, your toxic environment is fueling your depression and anxiety. Hate to be blunt but you will need to leave that environment and severely limit contact with those toxic others in order to stabilize. And that, by the way, is the reason behind the strict hospital visitation/contact...

Help? Does Anyone Else Shake When Having A Panic Attack?

Well, when I am triggered I sometimes start visibly shaking. For instance, I am triggered by child abuse. Once, I was at a fast food restaurant and I saw a couple abusing their toddler. I went over, politely but firmly told them this was abuse, and to please stop immediately. Then I walked...

    Ptsd Into Anxiety

Been there, done that. My resting heart rate was up to 150 bpm. My physician kept sending me to the emergency room over and over - something like five times. They did CT scans, ultrasounds, ... , you name it. They couldn't find anything wrong.

    DID I think i have d i d and it's panicking me

I'm not suggesting you sit with the question of whether you have DID or not. I am suggesting you just practice sitting in the moment; when you are bathing, think about bathing, when driving, think about driving, etc.. Stay in the moment. No one lives like everyone else. Every brain is...

    Can't Tell Therapists This..
