I have no known phobias (and never been diagnosed with any mental health issues other than social anxiety). I never had any sleep issues until about 10 months after the event happened. I do acknowledge that I could have been paranoid about the situation, and maybe instead of me being...
I was threatened by a person with a gun at night, and I didn't see who it was (it was through my window and they had a laser sight), but ever since that night my mind has been stuck in a "stressed state" non-stop (I believe this is "hyperarousal"). It's like my mind is stuck in a stressed state...
I take both Remeron and Zoloft because of hyperarousal affecting my sleep, and I also keep a detailed sleep log of all the different medicines (and the time I take them)... and I've found that the optimal time to take the SSRI (Zoloft) is at bed-time and greatly increases how long I stay asleep...
And by "religious", I mean having faith in a something greater than yourself... i.e. Christianity, Islam, Unitarian Universalism (for agnostics/atheists), Judaism, etc.
Just wondering if anyone has found being more "religious" has eased their fears and helped their PTSD (in general)...
This is an interesting strategy... basically, get yourself very fit so that you still feel rested even if you've only had 5 hours of sleep (rather than the normal 8)... so are there people with PTSD on this forum that have had success from this? I've always heard very fit athletes only need...
So EDMR actually works to remove us from this "fight-or-flight" state?
The shrink said I have "mini-PTSD" as I'm just stuck in this state, but don't get nightmares or "flashbacks" (or any other obvious symptoms). Also, I have mild aspergers so i'm just not an emotional person in general (which...
So are you able to fall asleep during naps? And by "graduated therapy" you mean EMDR? Is EMDR something I can do on my own or is a psychiatrist needed?
I've tried Trazodone, Paxil, Seroquel, Doxylamine, Temazepam, and Xanax. If I take Xanax at night (i.e. 0.5mg) then my sleep won't feel restful (even though I may still sleep 6-8 hours)... could Klonopin (also a benzo) be different or work better? Remeron has worked the best, and I've tried...
So awhile back I was threatened with a gun in my bedroom, and ever since then I gradually developed chronic insomnia over the course of about five months and I believe it's because my subconscious is afraid I may be shot in my sleep so it keeps me awake (even though I may be in a very secure...
I've seemed to completely fix my sleep issues from PTSD by sleeping in a room without any windows... has anyone else also noticed they sleep better in places like this? It makes sense... with a window, we're exposed to threats (someone could potentially shoot through the window or get to us by...
I was taking Effexor (an SNRI) and it didn't seem to help, so now trying Zoloft. So we'll see... Remeron works for a couple of days, then stops working for a fews days, then works again for a few days, and so on... so with Remeron, I get about a 50% chance of waking up rested.
I was threatened by someone with a gun and ever since then I've been stuck in a hypervigilance state (where all my movements are subconsciously "jerky"), as if my body and mind are stuck in alert mode... even though I consciously know there's no longer a threat, it's like my subconscious mind...
