    Does Anyone Not Take Medication?

Here in the U.S., I think the field of psychiatry in general has regressed. There was a time M.D. Psychiatrists actually listened to patients, and practiced this thing called " therapy ". Now you walk into a psychiatrists office, he eyeballs you for a couple of minutes, announces you are...

Left Brain Struggles To Put Right Brain Emotion Into Words

Just a little earlier I bumped my story. Others had indicated they wanted to see it but could not find it. In my mind this thread is the best one to have been on this forum. And it dovetails to some extent to what my story is about. If you get a chance, it is well worthwhile to go through...

I Believe PTSD Is Curable - An Anonymous Source

I have not done this in quite some time, but some individuals have sent messages to me stating they want to read this but were unable to find it, so here goes.

PTSD - Can It Be Cured?

I've been following this. Some may not like this topic, but I do. But you do have to keep the proper perspective on the big picture here. I feel like I need to clarify something. I was first diagnosed with PTSD in May 1999, this was the testing I received from the detox center. 2nd time was...

Poll When Did the Symptoms of PTSD First Appear, After the Initial Traumatic Event?

I could not answer this. I was beaten throughout childhood and into early teens. Beatings go back as far as I can remember. I have been told that they even occurred during infancy. My childhood was a total disaster, so I don't have an answer.

Poll Has PTSD Caused You To Attempt Suicide?

I have not ever tried to outright kill myself. I would be dead if I did. But I have engaged in high risk activities since I was 17. Looking back some of the things I did were horrific. Once, in 1997, My truck had some bad gas, long story there. But I decided to fix it myself. I remember I...

    Overcoming Alcoholism

I am a recovering alcoholic myself. Don't sell AA short. I have known perhaps hundreds of people who have turned their lives around by following the AA program.

    BBC Shows on PTSD

It happens here as well. But there has been well done, accurate reporting as well. It's just a fact, many do not think PTSD is a legitimate diagnosis, or that it even exists. I heard one talk show guy describe PTSD as an invention by someone who had something to gain by exploiting the...

Has Anyone Gone Through A Safe Medical Detox???

I am a clinical pharmacist, and this is my opinion. The best way to discontinue almost all drugs, is to slowly taper the dose for an extended period. Without knowing which drug you are talking about or your current dosing regimen I could not provide you with an exact tapering schedule, nor...

Poll Swiss Cheese Brain a PTSD Side Effect?

For myself, this was totally going blank. It was as though I was totally short circuited somehow, and being unable to process anything period. As I think back on it, I can recall, even my vision would go dim.

Poll Swiss Cheese Brain a PTSD Side Effect?

Very good poll question, I commend you. I know what it is like. I remember reporting this to a counselor and a psychiatrist, during a very difficult 2 year period, from 2000 - 2002. Nobody seemed to pay it much mind. Then in about March, 2002, I was in a rehab facility. I went through...

Do You Think PTSD Is A Terminal Illness?

Forgive me for getting off subject. But I can't help feeling this way, and I really need to say this. It is sad for me to know how all of you are struggling in your daily lives with this horrible thing, PTSD. I know what it is like. I once had it about as bad as it gets. I'll never forget...

At times, harshness is warranted, and is also necessary.

Do You Think PTSD Is A Terminal Illness?

I don't have a problem with considering PTSD terminal. In 2002, I was in a drug rehab. After once again going through a big round of psych testing and such, I was told I could not take another hit in this life. I was used up, and the next time something bad occurred, I would kill myself...

    Whats Your Hobby?

I'm still banjo picking. I also live on a reservoir, so I'll do some fishing sometimes. I have a small boat I have been slowly working on, trying to get it the way I like it.

    Feelings Of A Lost Life.

Even the title of the thread struck a chord. Not a day goes by that I don't feel a sense of loss in my life for what PTSD, and the people who caused it, took from me.

Can You Talk About Your Trauma?

It used to be almost impossible. While in psyche hospitals and rehabs, counselors and psychiatrists would try to get me to talk about events from childhood. I would get shaky, dry mouth, teary eyed, wobbly kneed, and so they would always make me stop.

Do You Feel Like You Have Control Over Your PTSD?

Do You Feel Like You Have Control Over Your PTSD?

I have not had any symptoms of PTSD since about April of 2004. Prior to that it was kicking my ass, there were no good days, and I doubt I was long for this world. Since April 2004, I've continually matured emotionally and sociallly, and I feel as though I get stronger each year.

    Learned Something Brilliant Today

It reminds me of an old saying; It is easier to act your way into a new way of thinking, than to think your way into a new way of acting.

This is the first I have heard of it. It sounds very interesting. I believe I will check it out the first chance I get.
