2,000 miles from home and struggling, have no support system here

Two things: Here on the west coast, many therapists offer sessions by online video or similar; you might look into that. Second: it is absolutely clear that trauma has a physiologic impact. An amazing book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0143127748/?tag=ap0f5b-20 Lastly: I agree with Mach123...

    suicidal after 1st session?

I 'stuffed' my emotional response to CSA for decades, pretending that it was the only way to deal with it, that I would disgust anyone to whom I disclosed my abuse. Someone here wrote a metaphor that resonated with me: Trauma is like a rubber band that keeps getting stretched further, when it...

Relationship Husband is abuse survivor, our world has imploded

There is reason for you to have hope, too. Because there is.

Relationship Husband is abuse survivor, our world has imploded

Hi, G-9: Welcome to MYPTSD.com; I think you'll find it valuable. Someplace in this site there is a great analogy: suppressing trauma is like stretching a rubber band to extreme; it will snap back with more ferocity than the effort it took to stretch it. In my case, I suppressed and secreted my...

    Does sex drive ever return?

Sure: I was a paramedic for over two decades, and herniated three discs lifting a very obese patient. I knew it exactly when I did it, and over the course of the next five weeks the pain, weakness and loss of sensation worsened. Eventually, I was out of work entirely, could not sit down - only...

Sufferer A “new normal" post-trauma, or can I get back to where I was?

Weighing in with two comments here: 1 - There some old catchphrase about the lawyer who has himself as the client... ;) ... and... 2 - Re: "will I ever get back to where I was...?" Immediately, my brain went to: why the hell would you want to? Every one of us has a different story, a different...

Stupidest.trigger. ever. / what is your weirdest trigger?

Old-style skeleton keys in a lock. Glad they're not around any more, but they're in movies once in a while.

    Does sex drive ever return?

I live with MDD and PTSD (CSA) and have had disc herniations repaired and also have ED that is only responsive to TriMix. It's very difficult indeed. Thank you for the response - I wish you luck in your recovery from a complex situation.

    Does sex drive ever return?

I've tried a number of approaches to prostate stimulation as a result of ED. Some work, some no. Electro-stim.... not so much. What does "I get my homework..." mean?

    Night terrors and MiniPress

Ahhh... thanks for the tip. I work with clients all over the world and am usually more culturally sensitive than that. (Learned early that when working with people from China, it doesn't work to say things like "...let me noodle that..." Much appreciated.

Sufferer Suppressed CSA & Abuse - I'm 63, married, adult kids, great wife.

Hi - Apologies in advance to anyone who's already read this in a reply I wrote in one of the forums, but by way of introduction my story is below. I was raped (still learning to use that phrase) from age 9 to about 14. My father's reward for my half-brother's abuse of me was to beat me...

    Sufferer Rape survivor

Hi, O.I. To the degree this helps: I was raped (still learning to use that phrase) from age 9 to about 14. My father's reward for my half-brother's abuse of me was to beat me, especially when he was drunk. I was the center of their attention almost every night. I'm 63, married, adult kids...

    Night terrors and MiniPress

Hi - I'm a newbie; just stumbled on myptsd.com. I'm also new to addressing my mental illness. This may have been addressed here before, but my prescriber recommended a very common anti-hypertensive called MiniPress which has the happy side benefit of reducing night terrors. The impact for me...
