    Lighting The Metaphorical Match

Can't speak from an experience doing this, but I share your fantasy @Seagreen. Getting up one day, taking my little girl with me and leaving. Not tell anyone I'm going, just go. Some days its enough to remind myself that I have this power over my own life.

    Dom Violence Feeling Alone

YES. As someone who survived a relationship with a sociopath, believe me when I say this.. It will get worse. A lot worse. That isn't a question of if, it is a question of when. I cannot stress enough and it is no exaggeration when I say your life could be in danger.

    Bad Experience Exploring Two Therapists

Wow, your 'pittance' huh? Eesh. Sorry you're struggling so much to find the right therapist. Great that you are doing right by yourself continuing to look for a good fit though. Good luck in the hunt.

    Trauma Art Narrative Therapy

Ok. Thanks all. Think I've got a better picture now. I understood the art therapy part, just not the whys and how tos. Not going to knock it until I've tried it.

    Trauma Art Narrative Therapy

Anyone ever hear of this? Know what it consists of? Started seeing a new therapist tonight and she says this is something she utilizes a lot. I don't know what this means. I do know there isn't an artistic bone in my body, and you couldn't get me to 'draw a picture of my trauma' at gunpoint.

Do You Get Many Somatic Reactions When You Talk About Difficult Stuff?

Yep. Quite often. Or finding myself stuttering when I do manage to speak. Or when trying to explain something to someone, realizing that I'm relaying the story out of sequence, or saying something different than the thought I intended to express. It's like brain and mouth don't meet up anymore.

Sufferer Exhausted, Agoraphobia, Massive Fear, Shame, Guilt, Suicidal Thoughts, Massive Social Phobia.

That sounds like a lot of shit building up, over a long period, and coming out at the worst times. That sounds like a slow burn becoming an inferno before you knew it, with no out. Stress makes people do some f*cked up things. Living with those mistakes on constant replay through our mind...

Removing Toxic People From Your Life

@Karen12 That must have been a really hard thing to have to do. But I'm glad you found empowerment in it. Sometimes that's the catch 22- cut someone out and lose them forever, or continue to live with the cloud of negativity they hold over your head. I struggle with this in my family...

Removing Toxic People From Your Life

@Lionheart777 I've got a few good friends who are basically hermits themselves. We come together every now and then when the urge strikes, then go our separate ways for a long time. I'm glad for those friendships in moments where it seems like everyone else feels entitled to my time and...

Removing Toxic People From Your Life

Thanks very much. It helps having other people reiterate what I already know at heart is the solution. Playing doormat and gatekeeper to other people's emotions has led me into some pretty heinous situations. I've acknowledged it. Now it's a matter or confronting old patterns and changing them.

Removing Toxic People From Your Life

Looking to hear other people's advice/opinions. From your experience, when cutting toxic people out of your life, is it better to do so silently and without explanation? Or give your reasoning for terminating the association? I hate the idea of hurting anyone's feelings, but am tired of making...

Sufferer Exhausted, Agoraphobia, Massive Fear, Shame, Guilt, Suicidal Thoughts, Massive Social Phobia.

Haven't many words but Wow.. Thank you for sharing your story, it must have been difficult to open up about all that. It was difficult to read. I understand completely the shame and guilt. Drowning in it every day. I'm sure you've been told before that little girl's death wasn't your fault...

    Dissociation Induced By Loud Music

Yeah, except for me I like going for drives and turning the music loud. It stops the thoughts for that little while.

    Sexual Assault Two Years Ago?

That is a very understandable fear, but remember, if you do decide to report-- no one will know you are reporting except for the police, or anyone you tell. The police will not laugh at you or 'dismiss you as some stupid girl'. It is their job to take your claim seriously and to investigate...

    Sexual Assault Two Years Ago?

Hi sweetie. Sending a big hug your way  I'm sorry that you've come here under these circumstances, but glad that you are reaching out for help. First of all, what sort of support system do you have? Are there any friends, or family who know about the rape? If you do decide to report, it is...

Why Are People Drawn To Be Law Enforcement Officers?

Nope, a year later he still walks as a free man. It's infuriating, but an all too common outcome in SBS cases. Many other families I've spoken with, the abuser is charged but only serves a handful of years. As compared to their victims, who live with debilitating conditions (blind, paralyzed...

    Depressed And Feel Lost

Agreed. If you are even slightly concerned your husband might attempt suicide, please don't hesitate to make that call. He might only be bluffing, or feeling it in the moment, but it isn't worth taking that risk.

Why Are People Drawn To Be Law Enforcement Officers?

Can't say I've got much love for law enforcement these days. After being told in no uncertain terms that my child's abuse investigation wasn't priority because she didn't actually die. And hearing that sentiment time and time again from families of victims going through the same.

    Traumatic Vs Bad Memories

While I have no advice or answer to your questions, I'll be curious to hear others input as I'm trying to reconcile the same. It's different for me as I wasn't the one abused, my daughter was. Other people have said it sounds like I was being abused as well (verbally and emotionally) but that's...

    Military Pts Rage And Violence

I hear you on the intimacy @Gunsmith. Nothing to be embarrassed about, but I know how frustrating it is. My sex drive is gone as well. I think scout86 got it right. How can you think about sex when you're constantly in distress?

    Military Pts Rage And Violence

In the months following my daughters abuse, I used to drive around town looking for her abuser. I wasn't even completely cognizant of the fact I was doing it, I'd be driving and just start taking side streets, looking. One time I did find him walking, and I had to turn around and drive past a...

Undiagnosed It's Been A Year This Month

@KwanYingirl Actually, all I really do these days is go to work, and read. Thanks for the suggestion, I could use some inspiration and will definitely check it out.
