    Wellbutrin / Bupropion experiences?

@EveHarrington - I’m on bupropion, too. When I started I was feeling some of the anxiety, but it leveled off. I had a hard time with prozac and Zoloft some of the other SSRIs because of the anxiety, but I had other side effects with the others that I don’t have with bupropion (paranoia...

    Court

@Kopykat - PLEASE contact the bank holding your mortgage regarding the foreclosure. Let them know what you are dealing with and ask what options you have. There may be legal resources available to you regarding the foreclosure that are different from your work comp case. Do NOT rely on your...

    Court

@Kopykat - your medical SHOULD be paid by your insurance w/o repercussions to you, but if something happened to you at work, the employer is also responsible for that. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

    Court

@Kopykat - one of the reasons the work comp court process takes so long is because a lot of people give up, then work comp doesn’t have to pay. It’s shady. You have rights and you should be taken care of. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Hang in there.

General Why do so many with combat PTSD have issues around the holidays?

I am not a combat vet, but I have talked to some, and the issues can really depend on the person. Besides the overwhelmingness of the holidays, some also feel remorse and conflict about their actions overseas. There is a religious element to the war and winning it on the front lines tends to...

    Dissociation Questions

@Kubash16 for awhile, I didn’t realize I was dissociating until I looked back either. That’s really the only way I know I’m getting better, by looking back and realizing how messed up my head was. I still dissociate in different ways, auditory exclusion and sensory distortion. Sometimes I’ll...

    VA Psyc Eval coming up

Hello @Glo809, I can relate to the incidents, but I can’t imagine how you kept away from PTSD for so long. Maybe things were different, no protests, people wanting you dead? Maybe also awareness? Hopefully you have an idea what triggered you and what you need now. I had the opportunity to meet...

How to make requests on the job?

Hello @Justmehere, I hope things are going really well for you. If you haven’t taken your friends up on their offer of using the car, I’m going to tell you to do it. But, I want you to look at it from a different angle. What if it was you offering? You wouldn’t offer if you didn’t mean it, and...

    VA Psyc Eval coming up

Hello @Glo809 - I’m glad you don’t have to go to court. I just got notice of my hearing, so I guess I assumed you might have one in the future, too. The psych eval will likely be an hour or so, there will be an interview and then some bubble tests like the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic...

    Avoiding People

@BlueWeepingRose, It really can be hard to talk to people about PTSD. A lot of people are scared of the things we deal with and a lot of people are either not strong enough to lean on, or don’t know how to help. This is a good site. I’m glad you found it. IQC

    Need a name for this

@whiteraven, I’m not sure if what you’re experiencing is part of sensory distortions and anxiety, but you might try an essential oil diffuser to disrupt some of that. I have had luck with the jewelry diffusers in interrupting some of that weird triggery stuff. Best, IQC

    VA Psyc Eval coming up

@Glo809 - you have a lot on your plate. Does driving calm you down? Be careful out there! The psych evals suck. Hopefully you’ll get a decent doc that actually wants to make sure you get the help you need. I had a bad doc for my eval, not military, but law enforcement. Long story short, doc...

Study Largest genome-wide association study for PTSD identifies genetic risk loci

From the legal/employment perspective. The U.S. has laws in place that prohibit employer use of genetic information. Do other countries have similar protection?

If this is a distortion which is it?

@FauxLiz, can you see your SI as part of re-living you trauma? I don’t know that it is or isn’t, but for me, realizing that at least some of my SI was part of re-living the trauma of a near death experience was helpful to categorize those awful thoughts and images and be able to distance myself...

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

@scout86, yes, of course the world can crumble in an instant. Post trauma stress gets the brain into a state of hyper vigilance so that survival and fear are the primary drivers of the being. I get how necessary that feels. I get that trying to tell people how fragile the world is, is like...

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

My dear @Friday, I can understand why safe isn’t a real thing for you. You’ve seen a lot of trauma, and your experiences have shown you that the whole world could crumble in an instant. It makes sense that you want to control things and tend towards sabotage for the purpose of control...

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

@Junebug, it’s possible that a physical issue is setting it off. For me, it was more about learning to read other people’s body language, and fearing their next move based on how they held themselves. It’s hard to know sometimes what the triggers are, though. Maybe even time of year, or weather.

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

@Friday- the feeling of impending doom! OMG! Yes! And then it’s almost a relief when something bad happens, cuz you feel less crazy? Like feeling that way was completely justified, and then you can say, “I knew it!”

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

@Friday, can you think of your subconscious as a part of you that only wants to 1)seek pleasure and 2) avoid pain? If you can see ‘safe’ as avoiding pain, does that help you to connect? I can only guess that you probably avoid pain in other ways. If your trauma was not from someone close to...

Pivot Points - Central Themes In Managing Your PTSD

@Junebug - I like the way you think. One of the things I have tried to do through my PTSD, is to understand what’s happening in my brain and gaining the perspectives of others is useful, even if I’m not ready to understand it in the context of my personal life/experience. In that vein, one of...

Wow! Parasthesia, when my dose was bumped up to 50 mg, I couldn’t sleep because of the restlessness in my legs. Totally makes sense, now. Weird mental states

@Lisamarieaxo, I know where you are. I have been there. Your brain will heal and there will be a day when you aren’t feeling this. When you face a life or death situation, as you have, your brain filters out things that are not important to your survival, like the glass of water. There’s a...

Methods To Differentiate Between Hypervigilance or being Triggered & Real Threat?

@Abstract - good question. I’m going to tell you to first, rule out the physical. This is my T’s construct: HALT. Ask yourself, am I; H: hungry A: angry L: lonely T: tired. I have found that I have trouble now, discerning between a physical discomfort, like hunger and a physical threat, like...
