Understand AI use at MyPTSD: all AI use is explained in our AI help page. AI use is by choice here. It exists if you want it, but does nothing unless you choose to use it.
there are times when its easier to talk to strangers because they have no hidden agenda and they cant take control from you or of you. You have nothing to lose here and everything to gain so the worst thing that can happen to you on this website is going to be positive anyway
i wasnt sure
my decision was made after a chance conversation. my best friends wife is doing forensic psychology via open university (as a hobby) so i thought there is no reason that i couldnt do something at that level. i saw a careers advisor and attended an open day at college. i...
i had been looking for something new for years and was interested in management of some kind but clearly things have completely changed this year. i h...
i know the hours are a lot in this job (i only work weekends and still hit 27 hours in 2 days) but what about volunteer work? Cadets or something like that. Its not ideal but it might help him along for the time being until he figures out where he wants to go. I am 39 and starting a new career...
I am driving trucks too and I have exactly the same problem. No job satisfaction, no sense of achievement etc etc etc. Its taken me a long time to figure it out but I am now in college on a social science access course. Next year I plan to start my HNC psychology at university then eventually...
finding a job with appreciation is very unlikely to happen in civvy street. I have been out for 14 years and I am now studying new skills so I can work with the military as a clinical psychologist. People like your other half! He might find it easier to cope by using online resources to find...
if this is a British Soldier then the problem may be seeking help. On average it takes 14 years for that first step. The military culture combined with lack of support makes it difficult to seek help. Might be a good start using facebook for support from veterans
@Neverthesame I appreciate the feedback positive or negative. I am here to learn and if you guys can point out flaws then that is part of my learning process. I dont have all the answers and any idea needs criticism as well as support to identify any potential problems. I want to be good at what...
it is a theory that I thought of last week. We are training to go to war but the reality is probably very different to a training establishment. There may be some psychological de-sensitization training that could be introduced and incorporated into things like FIBUA training. Increasing realism...
the reason I am looking specifically at combat vets is due to the predictability associated with the job. When you sign up the odds change towards experiencing traumatic events which is why pre-op training may be relevant. Prevention is better than a cure!
this simply does not apply to civilians...
I cant relate trauma to this but I do question some things even the course that I am doing and the path that I have chosen. Am I really studying psychology to help people or am i doing it to enhance my own self worth? I know someone who is doing the same studies as I am and she questions her own...
if I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like your sense of morality is questioning your own motives and actions.
if more people did this then life would be so much more pleasant. Why do you see this as a negative trait?
a skill that the army taught me may be applicable here. Let things go in one ear and out the other. Just because you can hear someone does not mean you have to listen to them. You dont need to get into a conversation with them by actually responding when a subtle short "uh huh" will hopefully...
as a lot of people know, I am a British Army Veteran studying to become a psychologist specialising in PTSD. I already know that just being a veteran myself would make a huge difference to being a therapist treating military personnel. I would like to look into pre-op training and post-op...
I have done some research and the poppy actually began in the US. The guns stopped firing at 11am on 11th November which is why we have a 2 minute silence.
the poppy was written about in a poem because it was the only flower that grew on the graves in Belgium and France. An American...
11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is armistice day which originates from WW1. Sunday is remembrance day.
I personally do not need a special day to wear a poppy. I show my respect every day of the year with 4 wristbands plus I usually wear a poppy pin badge
my class were asked if we wanted to honour the 2 minute silence this morning and most of them weren't really bothered. I am the only one wearing a poppy this week and i almost insisted that we honoured the silence. Our lecturer on Friday mornings is German and they don't recognise armistice day...
a danger of the written word is that it can so easily be misunderstood due to lack of tone of voice and facial expressions etc. someone is in a hurry but wants to reply to something may type it quickly without realising that it could be read in a different light from the authors intention. i...
I may not be a psychologist yet but in theory I cant help you unless you tell me what is wrong. I dont care how you tell me, I just want you to tell me. You choose whatever method you are most comfortable with (or least uncomfortable with).
obviously I am having to project myself into a...
helping others often helps you to not deal with your own problems. I have been doing this for years but I find it very easy to be emotionally detached. If I am asked a question then if its relevant, I will ask if they want a personal or professional opinion because they could be very different...
I really wouldn't worry about how you communicate. Any form of communication is better than no communication. The format really should not matter as long as the information is passed over
recovering from surgery is not relevant. No man should as much as THREATEN his woman. Once is too often when it comes to violence. No ifs, no buts, NO EXCUSES!!!
the guilt seems totally understandable. You left him so that may be the decision that you feel guilty about but look at the reasons...
the governing body for counsellors and therapists in Scotland is called Cosca. I have contacted them to seek the best path for me and they have never heard of anyone leaving the Army and going into this field after service. They understand the situation and what I can potentially bring to it...
