I'm wondering whether other people have noticed weird stuff related to PTSD and PTSD symptoms. Things that may be positive or negative, but are definitely odd in some way. Any weird stories that you want to share?
Here's mine. . .
I work near a wooded area, where there are lots of little...
As a sufferer, I just want to say that this is a huge thing. We can tell when you are walking on eggshells. We know when you are trying to do things to accommodate us. It's not a good feeling to know that you are making your loved ones lives more difficult.
I think I can speak for a lot of...
I was just reading this and I thought of this thread. Thought I would paste this paragraph written by a trauma therapist named Pete Walker
As published in: “Recovering: The Adventure of Life Beyond Addiction”Issue 35; November 1991
There has been a lot of shaming, dangerous and inaccurate...
I basically have the same story as Ericaboo. Been employed for most of my adult life and always maxing out my days off. I 'crashed' hard about 2 years ago (which is when I finally got the PTSD diagnosis), did about 3-4 weeks of partial inpatient until I could actually show up at work again. ...
The way I see forgiveness might be different. I don't see it as a matter of kindness or goodness. People aren't good or bad because they forgive. Forgiveness is all about yourself. Screw the abusers. Forgiveness is all about helping yourself. Forgiveness is getting rid of the bitterness...
I suspect that I am on the verge of going into this stage. . .feeling the trauma as the kid rather than processing things as an adult sympathizing with the kid. . .I hope that makes sense. I'm scared as hell about it.
I generally can sense when my brain is ready to process something and I...
Cherryblossom. . .Thank You for this. I constantly need to be reminded of this. . .maybe, someday, I'll actually find the stones to get up, leave the office and never come back. My wife and kids would love it, too. . .at least, they would until they started starving. :)
FindingMyself88,
Like people have suggested, please try to reach out for help via a crisis line or hospital. If that is not something that you are going to do right now, then try this. . .it doesn't take much energy. Whenever you have a thought like "I'm forgettable.", add the words 'for now.'...
Hi BlisteredSky,
I use analogies a lot when I need to explain my PTSD to them. The owner of the company I work for is a sports fan. . .so I have a whole analogy equating PTSD with a basketball player who blew out a knee and is trying to get back into playing shape.
The goal is to put things...
I identify so much with almost every post. I don't think anyone who doesn't have PTSD can imagine just how exhausting it is to fake it all day. My wife is an awesome and caring supporter, but even she has a hard time understanding the exhaustion. Who can blame her, it doesn't even make sense...
As a diabetic and PTSDer, I see the diseases are pretty much the same in a few respects. At this point in time, there is not a cure for either of them. There is hope that cures can be found, but they aren't here yet.
BUT, if you do the right things, the symptoms can be reduced so they cause...
Most of the basic anti-anxiety pills are generic and cheap. . .your co-pay might actually be higher than the actual cost. One great thing about using the same pharmacy is that they understand the situation you are in and are able to work the system in order to get you what you need. Most...
I did a partial inpatient program that insurance did cover. Partial inpatient means going through the program during the day/afternoon then going home at night. I have nothing but gratitude for the program and the people running it.
I can't speak to the quality of the programs in your area...
Just want to add my voice to the others. Try to find a trauma therapist, the more experienced, the better. Whether you get the PTSD label or not is secondary. The trauma is negatively affecting your life. . .might as well get the help of an expert. .. .same thing as calling the electrician...
So, my thyroid is being uncooperative which is leaving me exhausted and on the edge of sleep all the time BUT when I do sleep I'm getting hit with nightmare after nightmare. Pretty much in a constant state of 'have to sleep, don't wanna sleep...have to sleep, don't wanna sleep'. Hoping one of...
A couple things, I agree with Hashi that the focus of your trauma experiences are probably the childhood traumas that you first saw as the bad trip on LSD. I was a bit of a psychonaut back in the day. That is how LSD works, it changes the way you see the stuff that is already in your brain. If...
Your symptoms sound a bit like mine as far as how the fragments operate. Along with PTSD, I was diagnosed with DDNOS, which is kind of a catch all term meaning not quite DID (multiple personality), but also not really described by an other Dissociative Disorder. That is NOT saying that you...
Just want to say Thank You for this. Out of the people who know about my PTSD diagnosis, the person who has reacted most negatively to it. . .is me. Myself. Beating myself up and minimizing. This quote really hit home for me and I'll put it in a place so I will see it often.
Home is in my head. That is the only place that will ever be safe enough to call a home. That probably sounds more negative than it actually is.
Like many of the posters on this thread, my family is the one my wife and I have created. Except for the uncle/aunt that supported my wife when...
