Poll How Many Hours Per Day Do You Lose To Ptsd Symptoms?

On days where I'm well-rested (no nightmares), well-hydrated, well-inspired, feeling safe, I think it'll be about an hour a day I lose. When the unseasoned fertiliser hits the fan, my day's shot.

Poll Do You Use Food For Comfort?

Yup, I use food for comfort, (and celebration, and motivation.) I don't like it that I do. I'm seeking better, healthier ways to be present with myself.

Thanks, Cj! Even jus reading your supply and activity list is dropping my stress level IMMENSELY! :-)

Hey, we can all say we have our low-maintenance service animals. All they need is periodic fluffing and a wipe down with a damp sponge and they're good to go. :-)

Recovery time after a super trigger?

Curiouser and couriser....Downstairs neighbour arrived back and is slamming doors. Being startled, I screamed after every slam and logged onto this discussion to find solace and hints. After 4 or 5 "slam-scream" volleys, he continues to slam doors and I find I've gotten into a dissociated-numb...

Good for you! I'm glad you got through the "Oh, I'm being silly" trap and had your comfort item when you needed it. Victory in a couple of realms! :-)

    Difficulty Moving And Speaking?

I don't think you were rambling, MyWillow. I think it's a way for one to grasp that what happened really happened. I gotta hand it to you for being able to recount so clearly the coming in and going out of dissociation, scary biscuits though they were. Welcome to the group, by the way. I'm...

barefoot, thank you for listing all the items you take with you and explaining their use. While I may not need as many items as you do, I am inspired that you're providing yourself with all you need to make the therapy session work well.

    Difficulty Moving And Speaking?

Oh, now that I'm thinking of it, I'm reading Peter Levine's book: In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness. Trauma, Neurology, Body-Mind connection; lots of good information HOWEVER, I often needed to read only a bit of it at a time, 'cause I could get easily...

    Difficulty Moving And Speaking?

While I am thankful that I'm not alone in such things, I'm sad that so many of us are wrestling so. Seeing the posts of people with their hints of how they bring themselves back is VERY helpful to me. I'm finding I have something of a spectrum of things I go through according to stress level...

    Christians Unite!

At the moment, I'm taking great solace in reading about the prophet, Elijah, and his nervous breakdown and how God didn't beat him up for being faithless, but rather, provided for him and got him out the other side of it, finish up his ministry and take him Home via a chariot of fire. (1 Kings...

    I Cannot Handle Working

I'm glad you're choosing the higher, healthier, though harder road. I'm sorry you need to work with losers. The fact that you described their actions and attitudes so clearly indicates to me you've got the kind of integrity that is SO rare in this world. Rock on! GrayOwl, thank you for...

    Memorial day sermon 2017

Good for you, Glo809! I trust your courage will help others speak up, too. Hope you get some good rest, kinda like Elijah did (Hebrew Scriptures, 1 Kings 19:1-9) although I hope you don't have a Jezebel chasing you down.

    Self-employment

I'd like to share and receive resources and coping techniques in the realm of self-employment. I presently do residential gardening for less than a handful of hours a week. It's a little business, but all my own. For resources, I find Urban Miyares / Disabled Businesspersons Association to be...

Well, ShielaKathy, it sure sounds like your work with Norman falls under the category of "inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me." I perceive you have a heart for loving service which is a really bright light in these dark days. As you dive into...

    Majorly Stressed About Self-employment

Though this thread is about 1-1/2 years old as I write, I want to refer whoever comes this way to Disabled Businesspersons Association which is also accessible via Facebook. I hope others find the connection there to be as helpful as I did. Cheers, everybody.

Sufferer Scared rookie to ptsd. having trouble opening up to trauma specialist.

Good for you for seeking resources, Ann. A couple tools I find helpful to deal with not staying present with my therapist are: 1) Saying something like, "Darn, I'm wanting to deal with this stuff, but I'm finding my body shutting down. Could you guide me in some somatic exercise or something...

    Christians Unite!

I've discovered there are several forms of meditation. Some are meant to intentionally create dissociation (an ungood thing) whereas mindfulness meditation I find help me get back into my body and help me remember to "set my mind on things above where moth and rust do not destroy and where...

While I don't bring coffee into my sessions, I, too, find it soothing, but the context has to be right. If the context isn't right, the caffeine contributes greatly to my anxiety. I'm glad I'm not the only one who benefits from the blessed extract of bean :-)
