    Venlafaxine And An Anxiety Med?

I second what JoeyLittle said. I have never personally taken it, but my husband does. Before he started it, he was depressed, super anxious, and his ADHD symptoms were interfering in his daily life. His GP put him on the Welbutrin, and it took his depression away, calmed the ADHD to very...

    I Messed Up And Cut...

I know how you feel right now. I started cutting when I was five. I quit when I was 27. I tried several times to quit. One thing that helped me break out of the despair/grief/guilt cycle was to frame it differently. Instead of saying, "I just threw away 225 days of not cutting" I would...

    Swimming With Dolphins

I can see your point. It would have really bothered me if they were being forced to stay. But they were in a lagoon that opened up into the ocean. They were free to come and go. As the guide told us - they stay because of the free fish. He also said sometimes they would leave and come back...

    Swimming With Dolphins

On my honeymoon almost 12 years ago in Mexico paid for and participated in a 2 hour swim with dolphins. We wore life jackets and played with them, then toward the end, they had two dolphins work together, one on each foot, to push us through the water like water skiing. They did all the...

    Really bizzare - hives

So to sum up, my mast cells have gone nuts, causing urtucaria (hives) and angiodema (swelling of the hands, feet, and face). I'm taking a bunch of medications to try to get it under control.

    Really bizzare - hives

So I saw my family doc. He decided it was not medication induced, based on the timing of dosage changes and so forth. He asked a ton of questions about possible allergies, and got nowhere. So he called the allergist in the much larger city about 30 minutes away, and convinced her to see me...

    Should I Email My T?

I think it's a great idea to send this to your T. There have been some particularly hard things I haven't been able to say out loud to my T in sessions, but I have found the courage to email him. He makes it a topic of conversation in our next session, but he already knows what's going on, so...

Sliding-scale Client; Suck It Up Or Quit? Long (thank You!!)

Honestly, this does not sound like someone who is worth your money. She has accomodated you with a sliding scale, yes... but, my T who charges 250 an hour for evaluation and 180 for follow up appointments, did a sliding scale when our insurance changed. His sliding fee was based on my income...

    Moving And Scared

I too am of Christian faith. I believe God doesn't allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear, but the key word is WE can bear. He doesn't fight the temptation for us. We have to fight it ourselves. If we choose not to, that's on us, not Him. You are, and I don't mean this offensively...

    Really bizzare - hives

I could go to the ER, but I'm pretty sure they'd give me some benadryl and tell me to follow up with my primary physician. I have an 8 AM appointment tomorrow morning, so I'd prefer to just wait it out until then. I'm taking benadryl regularly. There's no swelling, blisters, or soreness in my...

    Really bizzare - hives

Covered in hives from my knees to my chin. Taking a super hot bath as it's the only thing that soothes the itches. It would be amazing if tomorrow the doc has answers for me. To be honest, I am scared I'll get bumped over to dermatology and have to wait weeks or even months for an appointment.

    Really bizzare - hives

Urticaria is just another word for hives. So yes, in that respect, it is indeed urticaria. I'll ask my doc if he thinks it could be caused by the cold weather. I am inside a perfectly warm house almost all the time, though, so I'm not sure it would really be affecting me.

    Really bizzare - hives

Well, I live in Wisconsin. No sunshine for me. I'd think laundry detergent was a possibility, but it's the same stuff we've used for years. I initially thought bed bugs (EW!) but there aren't ANY signs of them in our bed. Plus I develop new hives throughout the day, and they don't look...

    Really bizzare - hives

Oh yes - all our speculation is no substitute for sound medical advice. Mostly, I want input so I can come up with better questions to ask when I see my doc Monday morning. He's very smart, but things go easier if I have specific questions.

    Really bizzare - hives

Friday - no depakote for me. I was worried it was a lamotrigine rash (which can also be fatal) when it first started. I saw the nurse practitioner for outpatient psychiatry, and she said it wasn't from the lamotrigine and was nothing to worry about.

    Really bizzare - hives

@Fadeaway I had the same thought about it being autoimmune. I have stage 4 endometriosis, which is a big indicator for possible autoimmune issues. @TreeHugger I had a tick bite on Thanksgiving. I was tested at two weeks and again at six weeks for tick-borne illnesses, and the tests came back...

    Really bizzare - hives

On my birthday (day after Christmas) I spiked a fever of 103, and developed hives all over. By the next morning, the fever and the hives were both gone. But since then, I've had hives coming and going. They itch terribly, and get fairly swollen. The odd thing is that they are only appearing...

I just realized this probably belongs in the Employment and Education section. Sorry about that. Feel free to move, mods.

    Auditing A Class

SO I am auditing a psych class right now. We are covering personality disorders. We've been given the DSM5 criteria. We're supposed to take each criteria and make it into a list of questions that the patient can answer, that would screen for each criteria. We can ask more than one question...

Stood Up For Myself To My Boss

Way to go! I don't think this is a small thing. I think it's huge. Standing up to authority is a big deal. Congratulations on defending yourself.

No Longer Flinching Around My Friend

This is excellent news! I hope it carries over to other people, eventually. Keep up the good work!

    Medication?

Ativan (Lorazepam) has helped me, and it doesn't make me sleepy like xanax (alprazolam). I take two 5 mg pills of olanzapine during the day to help with anxiety. I need to come off the olanzapine, though, so we're going to have to figure something else out.

    Seriously Injuring Oneself While Dreaming

I had a similar injury to my leg when I cut myself sleep walking. It ended up infected and I've had 23 subsequent operations. It's been two years since I last had any infection, so the doc has declared it cured (finally). I am still rehabbing, and will have permanent deficits. I am so glad...
