News Us politics - read first post before comment

Sorry, Cactus_jack, but our POTUS has the brain power of a three year old. He can't even process information unless it's read to him and contains numerous mentions of his name. Lol, this may get me thread banned again, but it will have been worth it.

Just wanted to add that while, yes, this is a republican form of government, it also has aspects deriving from Greek democracy, which is why, technically, we have a democratic republican form of government. A brief excerpt from a book I wrote says what I mean: "The earliest influences on the...

    Body memories

I'm so sorry you're going through this, Pauline. I really, really urge you to find a therapist you can relate to. I just don't feel I can give an opinion, except that I'm so sorry you are feeling this way.

    Our Pets

I am so very sorry, @TreeHugger. I have been there. Feb. 2 was the 9th anniversary of our dear Misha's passing and it gets easier, but, I won't lie, the loss is always there. Also he may well visit you in your dreams. I pray this happens for you.

Research Informal poll: domestic violence survivors with strained father/daughter relationship from childhood

I have to add that I wasn't just lucky. I had to have an epiphany or two about my history and better myself in order to be with him. In short, I had to learn to trust a good person, which wasn't easy, as I grew up with parents I couldn't trust ever. And early into our relationship, my mother...

Research Informal poll: domestic violence survivors with strained father/daughter relationship from childhood

Yes, Kimberly, there can be a happy ending sometimes. I still suffer symptoms of PTSD a lot, but my hubby is a saint and I've learned to live with it all. I'm glad you've found helpful info from your post :-)

Research Informal poll: domestic violence survivors with strained father/daughter relationship from childhood

It's really interesting I found this thread tonight. I was talking to my mom earlier this evening and she said I saved her life when I was about four years old. According to her, my dad tried to strangle her once and I walked in, he looked at me, and stopped. She sounded very sincere, but...

    News Does ptsd require trauma?

Hmmm. This is an interesting discussion. I went through almost a dozen traumatic experiences (which meet the DSM criteria) ranging from rape to debilitating emotional abuse to being chased for my life from the time I was 11 till I was 30. I functioned really, really well until after 9/11 and...

    News Does ptsd require trauma?

I'm thinking maybe the criteria should include the length of time of symptoms, like more than three months. I've had this for more than a decade. I've done tons of work to deal with my traumas and symptoms and I still fall into the severe range every time my T or psych checks me. But then I've...

    Funny things your pet does

Lol, @whiteraven, that is hysterical! Speaking of bowls, our cat Woody likes to put his paw in the water bowl and pull it out from against the wall toward the middle of the kitchen floor, then keep dunking his paw in the water and splashing it out onto the floor and then drink it from the...

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

It could be a bot, as someone else suggested. I don't recall getting a friend request from him, and I didn't click to check out his page, so who knows?

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

Also, when I was 39 I married my 56-year-old husband. It's a very loving, fun and harmonious relationship, but there have been rare moments when he pulled the "I knew how to do this before you were born" thing. By that age, I was self confident enough to talk back to him whenever he pulled it...

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

Also, I think that until the younger person is well into their 30s, there is a power differential. I'm just speaking as someone born and raised in U.S. white European culture. I'm not getting my arms around what I mean, but I can draw an analogy -- it's why it's unethical for a supervisor in...

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

It's more about them. I could never get involved that way with someone that much younger because I'd see him as a son, but it bothers me that they're at least ostensibly looking for someone so much older, because that makes them vulnerable to abusive older people.

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

It's happened to me in person, too. Otherwise, yes, @Ragdoll Circus, I'd figure the same. Though you are probably right about this latest FB thing. I think the reason this creeps me out is because it reminds me of me in my teens and early 20s. I was always attracted to older guys. I think I...

    Anyone go off of mirtazapine/remeron?

I went off it, too, because it made me gain like 30 lbs. I don't remember a lot of trouble with remeron in my case, but every body is different with every drug. Hang in there :) And if you get any extreme reactions that feel life-threatening, please don't hesitate to go to the ER or urgent care.

Does anyone else getting weirded out . . .

. . . when a person of the opposite sex who is at least 20 years younger than you comes on to you? This has happened to me most recently on FB the other day when a much, much younger guy with whom I am not friends sent me a message saying, "Hello, pretty." I mean, sure, it's flattering when...

Going off all of my meds

Yes, but if all fails, go to the ER or urgent care if you have that near you. And don't afraid to call an ambulance if you don't feel able to drive or have no one to drive you there. I tapered off Ativan as carefully as possible almost two years ago, and I was left with constant heart...

Yeah, but they get good pay, good insurance and pensions :) All for an often thankless job. I once aspired to be a firefighter, too, but at the time I was young enough to start a career, women weren't allowed. It was not until I was in my 30s that I heard about women being hired as...

I am a proud daughter of a firefighter. He was being groomed to be an artist for GM, but he chose instead to risk his life helping others. :) He did get a pretty bad back injury once when a ceiling fell onto him during a fire, but he managed.

I don't know, @shatter eyes, but I have the same problem. I drink probably half a gallon of water a day. It can't hurt, right?

    Funny things your pet does

Our Robert cat often sleeps under the covers on our bed in the winter. It's pretty funny when our little girl cat Sonja approaches him when he's under the covers and he meows, like, "leave me alone." Poor little girl. She loves him. But when he's in his fort, you gotta leave him alone.
