ADHD ADHD & PTSD: impulsive avoidance?

That is just fascinating. I don't have ADHD, as evidence to my reactions to ritalin as a kid and adderal once as an adult, holy anxiety! I struggle with tasks that don't engage the brain allowing for major intrusive thoughts when doing housework. I can't clean without music. I will ask my psych...

ADHD ADHD & PTSD: impulsive avoidance?

Whats is impulsive avoidance? It sounds like an oxymoron to me, so very confused but curious. Seriously? There is something that calms over active minds you can do mundane stuff? Does it help with keeping your mind from wandering over trauma while doing dishes? Mundane tasks kill me. At the...

When the therapist is too busy but the staff is not...

I think that counts as asking ? We do our best her to give helpful advice, it is OK to say it isn't helping. It sounds like way more going on than you had let on before.

When the therapist is too busy but the staff is not...

Go for interpersonal communication not cultural or other. I loved my interpersonal communication class, but that was back when my brain still worked right and I had good writing and communication skills, sadly I lost it in 2012. You can audit a class, no grade but can be there for the...

Freaking out about upcoming colonoscopy - how to get control of myself?

@EveHarrington actually in a few different states they have for me. It is just more expensive via prescription and rarely covered by insurance. The only pro is quality control. Every state is different though. Every county is different.

What helps make an ER visit for PTSD symptoms go well?

I will be honest, I am so confused on this topic now. I thought I used to know. Writing it down why I felt I needed to be seen used to work. I am hinging my bets on the fact my current area may just be extremely odd, and that might work for you. I write this with trepidation though. I really...

Yup, I have had plenty of those moments! The brain tries to fill in gaps.

Emerg Services Anniversaries of a bad emergency call

I don't even know how to respond to this. I can't begin to imagine. You had all those people watching you, and I am guess the crowds expectations were that you would do CPR, I can imagine a crowed of a hundred people with hightend adrenaline could get nasty fast if the first responders seemed...

    News Positive Thinking Can Backfire

I keep reading about this every where. Saw a great video that explained how it is helpful to people who are healthy, and children who have healthy parents but unproccesed trauma folks might as well forget it and childhood trauma folks should forget it for life, as it can cause someone to go...

Earth-centered Spirituality: Pagan, Wiccan, Druid, Native American, Other

? Nice! I don't consider myself a druid but much of what I do takes from drudical practices, and I have a lot of books published by the ADF. Mind me asking if if your course is ADF, OBOD or other? They both seem great. John Michael Greer, Issac Bonewits are two well known authors and here...

Freaking out about upcoming colonoscopy - how to get control of myself?

The prep is gawd awful disgusting to drink. Chicken north may be a good alternative? Can your partner help advocate for you?

You just hang herbs to dry mint or otherwise or spread them out in the sun. Another option is to turn your oven on to 100 degrees and leave the door open. This works better with things harvested in fall and winter.

    Hyper-Individualism vs. Wellness

This this THIS a thousandfold over. Last February I hit the lowest point of my life ever, I screamed and screamed and begged for help to no avail. I know they say no one can make you feel or do anything but I made my suicide attempt for this very reason. I was sooo scared because I couldn't get...

Freaking out about upcoming colonoscopy - how to get control of myself?

They didn't put me under in a way that required an anesthesiologist. The gave me an injection of something very powerful, although I don't know what but vallium doesn't knock me out nor do any sleep aids and I have tried them all. I let them know right off the bat that I had PTSD and this...

Freaking out about upcoming colonoscopy - how to get control of myself?

Yup, have themm puta you under. I am going to be having another one soon myself. I flat out told due to PTSD I have to be put under. Unpredictable fight or flight during the procedures makes it unsafe not to.

Deb, my friend killed herself this morning.

I hear your anger loud and clear. You are still grieving and will for a long time to come. Surving suicide is so hard.

When the therapist is too busy but the staff is not...

I forgot to mention I have experanced both scenarios. I was dumbfounded but not being able to have more control over who I saw in my current location. In the 4 states I have lived in a relatively short time frame, I was shocked by my current state. It was finally explained to me it is a state...

    The Myth of Mental Illness

OK, I think I get what you are saying, but it leads to more questions about separating what symptoms are behavioral adaption and which ones the inability to consolidate the memory. Some are clear cut like avoidance but hypervigilance seems like it could fall under both?

When the therapist is too busy but the staff is not...

It is a GOOD thing this therapist wouldn't schedule an appointment with the both of you. It is unethical for a personal therapist to do relationship counseling. Your therapist would be biased and it get very very bad. I was severely damaged by my last therapist who seriously broke confidence in...

    The Myth of Mental Illness

@joeylittle I absolutely understand that it is an injury. One can't just devolp it, or be born with it. My issue with the OP was the word adaption. Adaption to me means a change that is usually bennifical to ones survival, or helps to overcome deficiencies. It is generally a positve...

    The Myth of Mental Illness

@lostforgottensoul it is frustrating. Made worse by googles algorithm constantly pushing stories of people blaming their bad breakups on NPD. Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Practice Essentials, Background, Pathophysiology and Etiology

    The Myth of Mental Illness

@Wilbur I respectfully disagree and side with @DharmaGirl on the issue of narcissism. In my personal experience, and it has been discussed to great leangths here, most victims or parental narcs tend to be more empathetic and sensitive. While I fully believe my grandmother was NPD, there is no...

    homesteading/doing it ourselves

The area of mint is about 8x8 ft. There is so much stuff to forage in my yard. I noticed grape vines, plenty of red clover and wild violet. I wasn't quick enough with the dandilions though, leaves aren't tender anymore.
