I can relate.
I just want to say that I also did not read the previous replies to your post, I do so consciously because I want to give an intuitive reaction. My "first" reaction to your question, so to speak.
I get the feeling that you have 1. a need to be heard and 2. override that need...
Yesterday I was out in the forest practicing some crafting with my hatchet.
Suddenly I was drowned in this devastating feeling of "I suck at this, I can´t do it". It was so overwhelming that I put down the hatchet and couldn´t figure out how to get the courage to continue. I know I can craft so...
I guess this is related to my previous post about breaking ties with people.
I´ve always been attracted, in real life, to people who did not have time for me, even though they were otherwise people I got along with great. So eventually I adapted to hanging out with people I don´t really care...
Hey there,
My life has changed a lot over the last few years.
I´ve become more to the point and more willing to burn bridges if they need to be burned. I think I might be more of a pyromaniac in that regard than "normal" people (who don´t have trauma). If people disrespect me multiple times...
@Ronin it wasn´t a reaction to your advice directly - and I am biased, because I am just writing as one person and from my own experience.
I tend to write generalized advice, as I am not on the forum that much and don´t interact with all the members enough to know somebodies backstory, like...
I actually think it would be a good idea.
Why? Yeah, you do take that shit with you.
But you get a change of scenery and wonderful things along, too.
In all honesty, I find the perspective of "yes but it would be the same" a bit too gloomy.
No, it wouldn´t be the same - you don´t know...
@somerandomguy did you have experiences with the tension at first? It´s not muscle fatigue, I can tell it apart from traumatic tension...
@DharmaGirl no, I actually have low blood pressure :)
Hi peeps!
I have a question about tension.
First, to clarify, don´t picture one of these humongous gyms with tons of sweating people in them and horrible music playing. My question is about a small gym with a class of 7 people who are all really relaxed and no pressure involved.
I went there...
:D
It gives you hope for humanity, doesn´t it?
Supermarkets here don´t do that but I´ve managed to cut the supermarket out of my life, mostly.
But I´d give them a standing ovation if they introduced the quiet hours here.
Ok I see that Siniang said that NL does have those supermarkets, that´s...
Sorry I took so long to respond, currently abroad doing a new thing :)
Hey Chris, interesting question!
By PTSD brain, I mean that PTSD does not originate from the whole of our brain, it is certain areas that become overly active while other areas become overly inactive. That means that at the...
Hi people!
In 2019 I hiked from the Netherlands to Spain, for a total of about 1739 miles (2800km). I learned quite a few things related to PTSD, so many that I would need to write a book and that I could not possibly fit in here.
I learned that the act of walking (away) literally creates...
The breathing is the point.
The breathing is how you would breathe if your body hit a body of ice water. It´s an automatic reaction of the nervous system - a healthy one. It is very much unlike hyperventilation, in that when you hyperventilate you are not breathing in much air at all, but when...
Lazing about in my hostel room in Santiago C. I finished my hike, and now I feel shitty. Ugh, I don't want to go home, with all my mundane problems there. Maybe I can watch Harry Potter in Spanish on TV.
I am in a bed in a very cold room, but the bed is warm. I'm never going out again. Except maybe to buy food. (and tomorrow morning when I have to leave the room :P)
Hey Muttly,
In these things I am far more straightforward than some. I prefer to take a practical viewpoint in situations like these.
She isn´t paying you any rent.
She´s asking for things all the time.
I think she knows that you are willing to give her some space, and I think she´s playing...
I found that some things really are due to chemical imbalances in the brain. Meaning that depression isn´t necessarily caused by the world being horrible but can also be due to serotonin deficiency.
Sometimes, our brain... is a trap!
Hey man,
Not the same trauma as you but went through this insane anger, to the point where I broke a few bones, put myself in dangerous situations and demolished half of my furniture, then got kicked out.
I get what you´re saying about medication and therapy, my advice is: ditch what doesn´t...
Ok,
Considering the thread is still here....
Fantastic Mr. Fox
This is a movie that´s excellent for PTSD. It´s an animated movie from 2009. The animations themselves aren´t drawn Disney type of animations, but more hand-crafted and you can really see that a lot of care and details went into...
That´s an important sentence, I think in a real friendship all parties feel valued... :) So, no it´s not self-centered to communicate what you need. In fact it will make it easier for other people to know what matters to you in a friendship.
Self-esteem definitely helps in these things (because...
I struggle with this too.
In my experience when I was in the hospital I had more people visit me that I considered acquaintances. It was actually an opportunity to get to know other people more in depth. Bizarrely enough.
For me a friend is someone who opens up. I have very little friends...
