Scared of meds, even more scared to not take meds...has anyone had this combination of medications?

I guess you are talking about cognitive dissonance and not distortion, but anyways. I guess you are talking about dissonance, not distortion? Anyways, I pushed back on the notion that a pharmacist knows your medications better than your doctor. If a pharmacist talks my patients into stopping...

Scared of meds, even more scared to not take meds...has anyone had this combination of medications?

Pharmacists are not on call. They are not available 24/7. If it takes you 48 hours to get answers from your doctor and you are not happy with that, then I suggest you find another one.

News Article: "errors in the 2017 apa clinical practice guideline for the treatment of ptsd...."

Most clinicians are not researchers and most researchers are not clinicians. I have gotten very discouraged by the academic elite who do so many "studies" in a vacuum and tell clinicians what to do. Healing is an art as well as science, but I feel more and more that big science is...

Scared of meds, even more scared to not take meds...has anyone had this combination of medications?

First of all, I cannot comment on the Canadian healthcare system as specific as you are, but clearly a few things seem odd from what you say. *Codeine is an "analgesic" in Canada and also over the counter?! You have opiates over the counter? Not sure if this is what you meant, but it seems...

    Dissociation from emdr

No critique, just curious. Why do you have three therapists? Wouldn't it be better to just have one? Or is it managed care? I could never have more than one therapist and when I move, I will establish with only one wherever I go to.

    Our Pets

Well, that made it simple then. I will be bringing my cat with me everywhere from now on. Ideally, would like to get a pet cougar, but must first move to a state where you can have them.

Scared of meds, even more scared to not take meds...has anyone had this combination of medications?

I understand what you are saying, but I must still wonder: Why do you go to "your pharmacist" if you are concerned about medications prescribed you? Furthermore, do you really think they know your medications (and the effects upon you) better than your prescribing physician? I can...

    Our Pets

I have two Russian Blue cats. One is named Chalice and the other Snow. They are so empathic and vocal when something is up. Chalice woke us up a few years back when there was a water leak. They both walk on leash like a dog and will warn if there is something uncomfortable nearby.

What did you do today to work towards emotional regulation?

I want to make the best garden in the world prod that is pollinated by my own bees. Plants are wonderful creatures in their own and they never rule you up

News Article: "errors in the 2017 apa clinical practice guideline for the treatment of ptsd...."

WOW!! This is heavy and lengthy stuff. I tread research articles and synopsis all the time, but breaking all this stuff would take me a few days. However, even if broken down, I am not sure how it could be communicated in a clear way. Here are my views. *IMHO, EMDR is more of...

What did you do today to work towards emotional regulation?

I got out of bedroom and am now in a park. It is healing me and giving me more confidence. Just saw a squirrrel and its awesome. I have not watched news or stuff in two days and that has helped as well.

    Bad day/meds not helping

First Ellie, I am sorry you are having bad experience with your doctors whoever they are. If you can get other ones, Please do if you think hey are not helping you. Medications are needed for many people and the key is to have a good and strong communication with your physician. It is...

    Dissociation from emdr

Dear you.. Please do not extract vengeance. My incident is all due to others as well and I hope later on to consult legal aid to hold them accountable. However, if you do anything out of sync with the system, your abuser will only use it against you. Please trust me here. I have gone through...

Relationship Military boyfiend has ptsd and i dont know how to react

He is nowhere close to a relationship at this stage is my opinion. He needs to heal to be able to stand on his own before he starts dating someone and being able to give something back. I would honestly have this conversation or find a way to detach. This is not what you deserve and he will...

    Dissociation from emdr

Don't be afraid of asking therapist to step back and try going through other bothersome things in your mind. Maybe you are not ready to confront the most pressing things yet. I think it took me at least 5 sessions before I could even step close to my traumatic event and I was dreading it...

General Vet feels discriminated against at his work

I can only be sorry you have not had the same experiences, but can assert there are plenty people in society with PTSD, TBI or other mental health disorders who not only do well, but can excel in their fields. At the same time, clearly it is more of an uphill battle to reach same goals, but is...

Scared of meds, even more scared to not take meds...has anyone had this combination of medications?

A pharmacist knows the facts about medications, but they are not capable of reading your clinical picture. They operate more on theorems and statistics, so they will be little help in your individual situation. One easy thing to do here is to follow the money. A pharmacist has nowhere...

    Bad day/meds not helping

Hmmm, this is STILL not medical advice, but if you are taking a medication at regular schedule, there is a "steady state" when plasma concentration has reached therapeutic effect and it will stay like that as long as dosage is regular. THIS is different from "PRN" medications that are used...

General Vet feels discriminated against at his work

No disrespect perceived;) However, I will tell you this. In my residency training, one of my colleagues had PTSD and finished the training. I know others who are holding pretty darn complex jobs, one a chief IT coordinator at a major HC system. I also was working with his TBI at that...

General Vet advice welcome, does not like crowds, which things do you enjoy doing together?

I have been doing something vety helpful lately. As mentioned, I am big fond of rock climbing. However, it is maybe mostly about the solitude and beatitude of nature. In my town, there is a park in a suburb which goes back hundreds of years and is an Indian sacred site back in the days. It also...

Therapy or the lack of it

Therapy is time consuming and resource demanding. However, it is also your way to be seen objectively be someone hat is healthy and who sees several people with same problem every day. That's why it is such s useful tool. It is not a substitute for friends or like-minded, but rather another...

    U.s. eclipse

I am in a 95% coverage area, but it is almost impossible to be outside as there are crowds everywhere. I was looking forward to this about a month ago, but it didnt work out so well. Even my nature retreat is full of people. I guess I'll wait another 99 years for next.

General Vet feels discriminated against at his work

In my experience, the corporate world is typically horrible work environment for vets. Their cookie cutter, popular culture and overly up-to-date PC-ness can make anyone who doesn't catch up with latest fad feel like an outsider. OTOH, there is nobody I would hire more than a veteran and to me...

General Would my vet be able to protect me from an angry crowd?

Just forgot to add here. Fear of crowds is typically NOT a concrete fear of confrontation, but rather fear of unknown things that could startle. Also, the fear of the law for PTSD sufferers is very real. Many of us has directly been affected by assholes taking advantage of this and knowing...
