Sorry..I was so stunned I forgot to post the link. And it not just about trump. It's about leaders not realizing their comments are taken seriously by their followers. We've even had religious leaders talking about off the wall crap like this..

Trump just mused about whether disinfectant injections could treat the coronavirus. Really.

Like telling their followers of they drink silver it will cure them or that praying will keep God from giving them corona. People listen to them and they refuse to acknowledge the damage it does

Our "stay at home" has been extended until May 15th.

Must wear masks in public and you can now travel to your second home and you can also use your boats.

So far as UV's though, my previous home was built in 1955 and I'm the queen of mega allergies. That makes me immune suppressed. We installed a whole house UV gizmo whereby the air that goes in the intake flows over the UV light source and it improved the air quality, my allergen responses, and ability to deal with virus and bacteria. We don't currently have one in this house now, but if this thing continues.... it's likely we'll retrofit to install one.

Edit: Not the system we had... but an approximation. Bookmarked it though for mister to look at. When I had no ability to fight of virus and bacteria we installed it. The bulbs though do need replacing.

Whoops… forgot the link APC Duct-Mounted UV Air Cleaner Single 36W Bulb System I honestly can't remember the bulb watts to heat/ac tons though for whole house square foot.

P.S. So far as bleach. Yeah, it kills everything, but it also kills the patient. It was an old pool maintenance joke and an even older joke in medical circles for nosocomial infectious stuff.

@blackemerald1 - went digging... here ya go about the UV stuff. Don't be put off by the link title... there is a good amount of info about virus, bacteria and mold. Can biowarfare agents be defeated with light?

it's not new by any means, I was a teachers aid in my 8th grade small engine repair class, we had to wear safety glasses, after each class the teachers aid collected the glasses and put them in a UV sterilizer. The thing was from the fifties I would guess, no one got pink eye on my watch. Very old technology made even better with ozone gas combo nowadays.
Still very inexpensive, and as per the resident, some are small and battery-operated. Maybe he will demonstrate the internal use in an upcoming press conference. Dr. Brix looks like she wants to run screaming from the room sometimes- that might just do it.

But the UV light trick? Yeah thats old news. I just hope Amazon gets me mine before they are going for 3 times what they are worth and mine gets "held up" in shipping.

I hope people don't start thinking you can use UVC wands on themselves...That's a bad, bad skin burn.

Or, that party-people don't suddenly think that UV "blacklight" is a disinfectant. What does the wavelength for disinfection need to be...something in the 200s I think?

Considering people actually tried killing the virus with heat by pointing a hair dryer at their mouths... nothing would surprise me anymore, really.

Hence why I also expect some folks to take advices of “injecting disinfectants into their bodies” (the literal wording, regardless of whether or not it supposedly was meant figuratively) literal.

Remember, a couple years ago people literally ate tide pods. I’m really past the point of being surprised

I am with ya. That's a point so far in the past that I am pretty sure it is below the horizon now. I don't even really fully believe it when someone appears to be surprised anymore, they have to be faking it or just haven't been paying attention for a very very long time.

I am going to thread ban myself, today. I fully expect todays daily briefing, from my nations whitehouse press room, the one that is there to serve us and disseminate knowledge to the people through the press (who are protected by the first amendment), the workplace where those people are insulted daily and face what has to be legally a hostile workplace, to be a 100% crap fest. I can no longer comment on the world effect of corona virus without lashing out at this guy that seems to want to be the spokesperson for stupidity and lack of concern for the health of others in the face of this pandemic.

The exact words of a President, who has a tendency to write his own script at press conferences (which he's throwing out thick and fast atm) seems to be an incredibly effective way to distract from actual facts and issues.

Whether or not Trump's words can/should be interpreted as him suggesting people start swallowing light sabres dipped in bleach? Is a complete distraction from what would seem to be slightly more pressing issues for the US. (and the rest of us folks that don't happen to live in the US - remember us!?).

It's kind of irritating that this thread seems to have turned into "What stupid things Trump said about Covid today". Because most of the world couldn't give a ****. And Covid is too much of a serious issue right now to let the conversation get highjacked by any given politician in any country.

Issues, like how the number of people infected in the US is heading straight for 1 million people. And how there probably isn't a country on the planet whose health system can deal with numbers like that.

Idk, maybe that's what all this frustration is about? But if you think Trump is saying stupid things about Covid? Stop listening to him. Simple as.

There's plenty of other sources of information around on the topic. And there's a lot more to dealing with Covid than "Did Trump say something medically sensible today?" Move on already.

We went on a field trip to a CDC branch site... and got to go through the UV light rooms. I had no idea until then that only certain incrediably narrow bands of UV light are effective at sterilizing, and even then, only certain microbes. The UV lights the CDC uses? Are as different from the UV toothbrush stands, or tanning booth, as an incadescant bulb is from a laser, or a gas burner to molten lava. They’re also fawking expensive. So expensive that not even all CDC branches have them. Only ones a over a certain level of biohazard.

LeSigh. I’d have loved it if getting a gel-nail manicure could be written off as a health expense! :woot:

Germany Is Conducting Nationwide COVID-19 Antibody Testing

Let's get those wide-scale antibody tests rolling!

In a pilot study a few weeks ago in one of their hotspots, they found an infection rate of 15-20% of the population. This is in line with recent findings from NYC.

Those numbers would indicate that were much further along ion the curve then previously assumed - we still have some experts cautioning we're only at the beginning.

Yesterday I read that California is suspecting they had their first deaths way earlier than previously assumed and will exhume some deaths. That's gonna be interesting results.

We should keep in mind we haven't been testing until just a couple months ago, so potential COVID19 cases and deaths prior to testing would've gone unnoticed...
