im going to start this tomorrow and considering how awful the last three meds were for me is there any hope with this one? Can anyone help? I'm scared to take it right now considering how bad I reacted to Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft....

I had very bad reactions to Lexapro and Zoloft. Scared of SSRIs now....

New p-doc gave me Luvox. It didn't seem to help me personally at time, but I don't remember negative reaction. It's the only one I would reconsider. Sometimes think of trying it again - even this past week. I still have script, and thinking maybe I had too much going on to realize any positive effect.

Luvox didn't make me worse like others. Like I said considering trying it again - even with my bad experience with SSRIs.

I've had bad reactions to 5 anti-depressants. I have been trying a 6th one for about 2 months now and so far no reactions. It's longest I have been on one without a reaction. It still needs to be increased to be at a therapeutic dose, but it is a good sign so far. I have no experience with Luvox though, but I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone in having adverse reactions to medications and that there is hope that this one might be the one that works for you. Best of luck!

Luvox has been around a long time and they know pretty well what side effects can happen and not. I took it and it really helped. I did have a side effect that meant I had to stop it and I was really disappointed.

I know with any meds like this there are start up problems I mean I'm well aware your system has to adjust but with the past three I immediately had adverse side effects to each and I mean dangerous enough that I had to stop, plus the fact they weren't even working and I didn't feel better either. Paxil I became so terrified I had to go to the hospital so they could calm me down, Prozac I was so apathetic to everything I stopped loving my boyfriend or my pets, and Zoloft made my brain too quiet I couldn't focus or brainstorm and then I started having PLMD in my legs almost all night every night, no sleep. Also I had no appetite at all for like two weeks and pretty much stopped eating. I am not even looking for problems here I desperately want something to work so I doubt I'm manifesting these things out of my own mind. I just am so bummed out nothing has worked so far. I do hear great things about Luvox but doesn't mean I'm not scared. What were your side effects if you don't mind me asking?

I have taken a couple of antidepressants including Effexor, Prozac, and etc. they either did nothing or I had horrible side effects - everything from my hair falling out to

Luvox caused me to have night sweats. It was very gradual. If I took it every other day, it wasn't so bad, but then it didn't give me the relief from anxiety that I got from taking it every day. When I took it every day, I woke up so sweaty every morning it was like I had been drenched with water. This was a gradual effect hat built up over time. At first the sweats were slight and hen it just got worse to the point where it wasn't doable for me.

That being said, be very careful about relying on anecdotal evidence of side effects for any medication. The medication that is right for your specific body chemistry may not work for the few people that respond here, but be perfect for you. Conversely, the medication that works for others, every everyone here, may not be right for you.

If you have a good pharmacist that you like, I suggest asking them about what are the most likely possible side effects to watch out for. I do this because then I don't read all the possible side effects and have any reserve placebo effect. I also get to know in an unbiased fashion what are the risks, which medications are safer than others. My pharmacist and I talked about the risks of Luvox on the phone before I started it, because I was so uneasy. They went through various meds and helped give me data that shows Luvox is an older medication, and thus may have more side effects than new meds, but it's much better understood because it has been around for awhile. The side effects are more predictable and easier to deal with, in my opinion, for some other medications. That's how it is for me, but it may be better for your body to try newer meds.

Does your doc know about your concerns about side effects? They could start you out on the tiniest does possible to help take as little oak as possible, and give your body lots of time to adjust. After the nightmare of Effexor for me (which is a wonderful drug for others) I always start out any new med at the smallest dose possible and build up. This helps prevent from any side effects coming up so suddenly and so badly that I can't manage them or quickly taper back off the medication.

i'm not sure how serious your dx is, but have you or would you consider a natural alternative to rx SSRIs....St. John's Wort is an herb, a natural SSRI and has been proven in medical studies to be as effective as rx SSRIs with little or no side effects documented. certainly nothing major and life threatening. you can easily research this on google. i'm using it currently and it's helping. i've used it in the past with good results.

if you think about it, all rx drugs are pattermed after something already found in nature, they either contain a derivative of something from nature or are are synthetic or hybrid versions of something found in nature. if you've tried rx meds with negative reactions, it can't hurt to at least explore your options with natural alternatives, they can be as powerful and effective as rx drugs with less harsh side effects.

I take Luvox for my OCD. I started it about 5 months ago. It hasn't really helped with my OCD but does help a little bit with my anxiety. One of the side effects is unusual tiredness. I take my dose a bit before bedtime and it helps me sleep. I don't sleep as long as I should (I stay up too late) so I am very sleepy for about 3 hours after I get up. The other side side effects I notice are dry mouth and constipation.

It does have positive effects in my opinion. Everyone reacts differently when taking meds. I hope it helps and doesn't give you unbearable side effects. Good luck.

I took one dose last night 25mgs and I am exceedingly tired now barely been able to get out of bed and I'm dizzy. My stomach is a bit upset, no loss of appetite, but I'm so tired I have no energy to get up and get food. Is this normal? To be fair I'm very very sleep deprived for several thousand reasons so if this stuff makes you extra tired, which I usually am anyway, that could be the reason. Also nightmares all night. About my parents. Ugh.

I ended up basically being immobile yesterday cause of how sedated I felt. I kept zoning out and was barely able to stand without passing out. Even if that is just "start up" side effects I can't function that way for a week I got a job I gotta drive places. It was ridiculous how awful that was after one dose and I ended up dozing off and having the worst nightmare ever. I didn't take a second dose of it. That was utter hell yesterday. Feel much better today.

Uh, sorry to hear that... Sounds awful. Glad you are feeling better today.

Yea I hate it when doctor's tell you to deal with side effects, and you're like "I need to work to pay rent! What don't you understand?"
