I overcame my PTSD with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I still apply the skills and learnings everyday to maintain my mental health. I also find mindfulness meditation incredibley helpful.
I can only echo what others have said, Kinberly. Effective treatment does exist and the research shows that early intervention with effective treatment (e.g. CBT) reduces the likelihood of developing PTSD and related problems.
CPT has an excellent efficacy record. It's an extremely effective treatment and I certainly hope it leads to significant improvements for your husband.

I was never a religious person and my life experiences never caused me to think any religious beliefs could have any validity....not that I would ever base my beliefs based solely on experience.
