I have been dating a gal who also has a trauma history. She gets very politically agitated. She obsesses on politics and gets very angry about it. Sometimes I wonder if pointing at something outside herself is a way of avoiding the inner turmoil. Personally I try to not get too reaped up in it as I have enough on my plate just dealing with myself. Maybe politics is a form of avoidance.

I could not express anger or any emotion..My family of origion had a lot of transmission of transgenerational trauma. Abuse neglect denial substance use disorder. Me. Fast forward. My first now deceased husband was involved in underage online porn. He had a relationship with a 12 year girl. After 2014 critical illness got extensive medical treatment truma recovery domestic violence treatment..I am retired now. I have been contacting the senators and congressman and women in my state about social security. Unless the govt acts in 83 more checks all SS benefits will be cut 23 % percent per month. I also see that many people are consumed by the media the news yet this takes energy and time from caring for their own issues and making changes perhaps needed to adjust to all this. I am not in support of left right liberal Maga etc. Just human rights. Being respectful. But the US has lost its moral compass. My healing journey from ptsd is life long. Yet it has another component. To try to contribute to something good. I am working again on having tougher boundaries because I have met some people whose whole existence seems to be about focusing on all this. What happened to being outdoors going to coffee shops swimming reading books etc? Improving ourselves as a crisis is an opportunity? I installed an anger log on my phone a few days ago to record my feelings. It is helping. I need this group so I continue to work on my ptsd too.

They all talk absolute rubbish. But Anthony is right, break the cycle and there are more good people in this world than not. Don't focus on what you can't control - left right up down maga (Apologies I have never got into this subject). Most media is one sided so disregard that. Sorry to hear about ex and sounds shitty (I'll keep profanity to a minimum). I say f*ck country issues, focus on you. let the shit talkers worry about that. Go outdoors have coffee and read books. Do the things that identified as fading out if that makes sense
