Hey all!
I apparently have high levels of burnout amongst PTSD etc. Has anyone else had this and how did you deal? My doctor's general advice is to power through the next month and get everything for school done and try not to die. That was... less than reassuring. I'm really dizzy (from my...
I'm 19 so I have absolutely no idea for you (sorry) in that sense as thankfully I've never been pregnant. However, the fact that you are able to look at this and you've been looking into it and trying to see things from more than one perspective is a great thing for a supporter of someone with...
I'm a dancer so I'll put on angry music and tap dance; or go on a run in the cold wearing like a tank top and leggings.
I went grocery shopping with one of my best friends and that helped!
*hugs*
Unfortunately all I can really offer is hugs!
My mom was the same way when I was younger; your son will understand!
Do you have a counselor or therapist? If not, (depending on your country) there are lots of lovely help lines that may be able to give better advice than I can.
PTSD can make you do a lot of weird things. Have you tried calling a help line or going to counselling?
Fight or flight (in what I know of it) is more an adrenal thing about increased adrenaline in case you have to fight or run away to save your life. You can be feeling this because of the...
First off, my condolences this really sucks.
Second off not to sound harsh but do you think your wife is maybe guilt-tripping you with the whole killing herself thing? I have PTSD and loads of other crap and I know people who have personally guilted me into doing things using the "do this or...
Has anyone else been told by medical professionals that they have no idea what's wrong and can do nothing? I have PTSD and somatoform but because of I'm not even sure what my bodily and emotional reactions to things and functioning is just not what it should be. My psychiatrist doesn't know...
@bell
"When you felt shame afterwards, did you discuss it with him or just keep it to yourself? (That "aftershame" -shame hangover?- is the worst!)"
Hi Bell :) Yes I did discuss it with him but he had an exam in the next few days so we didn't talk about it too much. He was worried about me...
If it makes you feel any better the first time my boyfriend and I got intimate, as we were lying down to go to sleep I started having crazy flashbacks and was convulsing for a good hour or so first beside him and then on the floor. And he and I are still together :)
It does suck though...
@lorelei85 I'm a lot like you so I really do get where you are coming from. My ex and I went through this a lot and I excused his behaviour and let him do things that I shouldn't have done because I loved him. Then, even though I was unsure if I wanted to get back with him for the 4th? 5th...
@Kcrimescene I find the images come up too, but if you just keep doing it then it can help. I'm a dancer so what I do sometimes is put on one song on repeat and choreograph a dance in my head. If you paint or act or anything like that the same kinda thing would work. :)
Also, positive...
First of all, lots of hugs!
Second, have you tried writing letters to your husband and daughter? That way you could get all of your thoughts on to the page, maybe edit it and then give it to them in person or via email? If you think that they may not see your love, this could be a way to do it...
Do you have an ipad or iphone by any chance? Because there are these apps that I find really helpful and they are free! They are called PTSD Coach and Breathe2Relax. If you don't, search PTSD: National Center for PTSD which has essentially the same thing.
Some things I find helpful are...
It definitely would be! :) I sincerely wish you the best of luck!!
I figured I could actually talk about my job XD I do research for Food Services at a university and I find that works well with PTSD. Because it's research and analysis I am given a general outline of what people want and then I...
Thank-you everyone! :)
I am going to try to minimize my mentoring this semester (it`s a full year thing so I can`t back out) and do my best to sort things out. I think I've found a psychologist I like (based on her website anyways) so I'm trying to be optimistic for 2014!
I am not a massage therapist but I converse with mine a lot so I know the general idea. I think it depends entirely what your triggers are. If talking to people one on one bothers you (especially if the person physically intimidates you or makes you feel uncomfortable) then you could feel...
As a fellow university student who is going through this, I completely get where you are coming from. Have you talked to your faculty's academic counselling about this? With documentation they can give extensions, assistance, and sometimes bursaries.
Good luck!!!
That's awful! It hasn't happened to me but I bet there are things doctors can do! If it is a stress reaction they may (and this is just from personal experience) put you on an anti-depressant which may help! I had really weird PTSD symptoms (non-epileptic seizures) and I got help for that so...
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the love! It really helps :)
@DMerish No we aren't dating thank goodness! We hadn't even been dating for quite some time when this happened. I haven't spoken` to him since.
As bad as it sounds, I don't really know how to entirely take care of myself and neither do...
Hi @SwordsMistress! I'm a university kid too!
I was super freaked out talking to my therapist because I lived in a small town and was afraid of her telling everyone in the town, but once you find a good therapist things get a lot easier. I still have issues telling my therapist some stuff but...
Hi!
My name is Em and I am a second year university student in English and Political Science.
I have somatoform disorder as well as PTSD. My PTSD wasn't too bad (probably due to repression and whatnot) until a few weeks ago when my ex-boyfriend threatened to kill me or upset me enough that I...
